Looks like we may have to cancel our October trip :(

Be sure to check with the credit card company you made the ticket purchases with. Many of them have trip cancellation insurance benefits when the trip was canceled due to illness, or similar. If yours has such a policy, then you can file a claim form to get a refund up to a certain amount.

I'm so sorry. Canceling a trip, especially one you've been planning for so long, is never fun.

I agree with everybody who said to try to call and get refunds - you'd be suprised how helpful most people are and the worst they say is no. My grandmother ended up hospitilized with a stroke 2 hours before DH and I were supposed to fly to Vegas. While I sat in the ER with her, DH made phone calls and the airline, hotel and show tickets all refunded our money in full. The money wasn't what was important at that moment, but it definitely helped to not have to worry about - and we were able to rebook the trip for the following month.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Think of it as a trip postponement rather than a cancellation.
Your husband sounds like a wonderful blessing during your illness!

Some credit cards have trip interruption/cancellation coverage (I know our Barclays and Sapphire preferred do) so check with the credit card that you purchased your flights with.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in November, I thought life as I knew it was over.
But I am cancer free and thriving, and just got back from DLR. Make your health your first priority. You will get through this and DLR will be waiting for you. And the trip will be all the more wonderful.

Thank you so much everyone!

I will definitely check with my credit card. I hadn't even thought of that. We typically fly Hawaiian and i did not buy the insurance thing because i did not forsee this. I'm pretty sure they do charge to change or cancel though

For anyone that is wondering, Legoland won't extend tickets past the expiration date, but they can refund me! So good news there!

I haven't cancelled anything else yet since I have time on the hotels. I'm still stupidly hopeful.

I contacted Hawaiian Airlines and yes, there will be a $200 per ticket change fee. I can get that waived if I can get a Dr note. I also checked with the credit card and I can also choose to file a claim that way. So hopefully I can salvage that $800.

DH is adamant about cancelling. I understand he doesn't have vacation time left. What bothers me is that he doesn't really care to talk about WHEN we can reschedule. Apparently a vacation isn't high on his priority list. He just doesn't realize how important this was :( I guess it's something he will have to discuss sooner or later. We have up until April of next year to use the travel credit.

I know it is really disappointing and you'd like something to look forward to. It'll be worth the wait. I have a dh that sounds a lot like yours. :p Hang in there. He'll come around eventually.

He may just be worried about you and not able to focus on other things when putting you and work first.

I'm so sorry and hope you heal quickly. DS got really sick last year and we had to cancel-twice! He is all better and we are going in September. I hope youc an reschedule and enjoy it when you are healthy! Good luck!
