Looks Like Perks are Disappearing

I too have been upset about how much money we give Disney as DVC owners, and how very little we're appreciated. Last September I was so-o-o disenchanted with Disney. I had booked all our rooms at the 11 mo windows, one group at BCV & one group at SSR. We had all agreed to purchase the DDP. I knew there was going to be Free Dining in Sept, and we'd be paying $39 pp, per day. But then I started reading all the posts from people who had booked the Free Dining at the Value Resorts, and then were contacted by Disney about free upgrades to DVC rooms. Many asked for, and were given, 1 bdrms, instead of studios. After I booked 2 bdrm villas at both resorts, we didn't have enough points left to get anything larger than studios for our remaining family members. But here are these people, and there were lots of them, who paid for a Value, and got 1 bdrms, PLUS free dining for everyone! So let's see, we have prepaid Disney for our DVC rooms, we paid $39 pp per day for dining, and we had studio villas. They paid a small amount for a value, got a 1 bdrm villa, and free dining for everyone!

Then we went to the parks, and the Sept crowds of the past, or should I say, lack of crowds in Septembers past, had dramatically changed. Here were all these people that Disney had enticed to WDW with the free dining.

What made matters even worse, was that we had stayed at Universal on property for the 3 nights prior to checking in at WDW. Since we were staying on property, our room keys were "front of the line" passes. That was great!!! For 3 days, we had been able to go to the front of the line. Now here we were at WDW, and the crowds that had to be "bought off" with free dining, had taken over.

Wouldn't it be great if DVC members, staying on points, would be given something similar to that "front of the line pass". Unlike a discount, Disney would not be losing out on money. What a great way for Disney to show us DVC members that we are indeed appreciated.

As someone mentioned earlier, I think giving DVC members the same perks as Florida residents, would also be helpful. I know that we're not residents, but we do pay Florida property taxes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the few perks we do get. I would just like a little more appreciation from Disney for all the DVC dollars they receive. Afterall, we have all invested in our future WDW trips. Disney has collected the money upfront. We should be given as much respect as the people that have to be lured to WDW with deep discounts.

I also noticed the last time I went down in November, a lot of the dining perks were posted in your welcome package. Hoop de doo was there then. I'll let you know when we return in a few weeks.

I agree 100% I have been experiencing less and less pixie dust when I go and I visit about 5 times a year. It has been so that my daughter who is 4 yrs lately has been wanting to do the Disney Cruise instead

Five times a year?....I would tire of WDW as well. Once a year is more than enough for us.

Herein lies the issue....for many DVC owners, this is an EMOTIONAL purchase. We love Disney because of the way it makes us FEEL...that special combination of magic and pixie dust. We all love it...that is why we own DVC and that is why we spend time on the DIS boards.

But even though this is an emotional purchase for US (we want to feel "special" as many folks have stated), this is just a business transaction with a very large corporation. Do you think people who buy into Marriott Vacation Club do so in order to feel special? No, of course not. Buying into a timeshare is really only for one reason...to vacation in the style of accommodation you want every year.

Maybe this is something that comes with time? I don't know. I have only been staying in DVC since 2004, and I remember wanting/needing that feeling of being treated as "special" from Disney early on. Now, though, I just enjoy my vacations. Going to Disney multiple times per year is special enough.
