Not sure if that deserves a WOO HOO! or a woo hoo-ish?

Going down for the '08 National Conference on Volunteering & Service so the conference itself looks pretty cool to me. It's going to be great meeting folks from all over who do the same kind of job as I do. Not many of us around I guess.

In any case, never been to Atlanta. Anyone else? What's to do?

And sadly, no car for me.

I went to a conference in Atlanta, but it has been quite awhile ago (6 or 7 years). Whenever we would leave the hotel the doormen would say "Stay in a group and be careful!" Not the sort of thing one wants to hear in a strange city! :scared:

The only thing we did was the Coca Cola museum. It was fine, but I am sure there are more exciting things to do there!

Have fun at the conference! :)

"Stay in a group and be careful" SERIOUSLY?!

Looks like my cocktails will be had in the hotel lounge! :thumbsup2

I have a friend who live there and he said
they have quite a good "seen".

If you're into the "seen".

Do you like to shop??
I have been to Atlanta, in my shop til you drop hey day...........and I remember they have great shops along Peachtree ( i think that was the name of the street)

other than that I don't remember a whole lot, its been a long time since I was there.

Hi Rick!

I actually live about 20 miles north of Atlanta. There are several interesting sights, tons of great restaurants, and some good places to shop. Not sure what your interests are, but here's a starter list:

1. Georgia Aquarium

2. World of Coca-Cola

3. Inside CNN Tour

4. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site

5. High Museum of Art

6. Piedmont Park

7. Turner Field - if you like baseball, the Braves play here (you're not a Mets fan are you??)

8. Atlanta Botanical Garden

9. Zoo Atlanta

10. Stone Mountain

11. Centennial Olympic Park

The restaurant and bar scene (boy bars are numerous) is lively!

You should be able to cab it most places. And don't worry ... the city is perfectly safe.

When is your conference? Hopefully, you will have nice, non-pollenated, weather!

Yep. Seriously.

I can't remember what hotel we were in. It was directly across the street from a nice Marriott. We walked to Coca-Cola World, so it was in that vicinity. And we never went out after dark - the doormen were saying that to us when we went out in the daytime! :scared1:

Good grief! It's really not that bad.

I would just say exercise caution as you would in any city.

I never felt "unsafe" when I was there. I stayed right downtown, and went to an event at the Georgia Dome. I walked, took the subway, and a cab. As Penny said, it's a large city, just exercise caution like you would anywhere else.

As safe as NYC...At least here in the south they say thank you after they mug you.:lmao:

I'm not even GOING There but I love articles that tell you about the cities you want to visit

I went to Atlanta once for a college bowl game and just remember it being a blast :cheer2:

Your weather history shows that it's likely to be rather warm and sometimes stormy. The ATL is not my favorite place in the world, but as that list of 50 fun things to do shows, there is a little bit of fun to be had here. The gay scene is alive and well, or so I hear, I haven't been out in it for years.

Reading material for the GLBTQQ and CSP scene in the ATL.....

WETbar is a pretty great bar with a diverse crowd. Corey likes it. Frankly, I just miss Backstreet and Charlie Brown's old cabaret show. I likes me some great drag! The Goddess Raven is my all time favorite. I swear, Corey paid her rent in tips one month! lol

I am sure you will find lots to do in Atlanta Rick, if I can help you in any way, just ask.

you're a star on the CB in the 'Favorite Posters' thread
(:rolleyes1 shhhh..... you can send me my twenty bucks later)
