Looks like I need surgery...

Need input from my fellow Dis'ers...

my surgery is scheduled for June 24th... we are supposed to check in on the 1st for the 4th weekend... should I tough it out at the Fort just one week after surgery and not up on my feet or cancel the trip? I'm only going to have 2 of the boys- my parents are taking 2 up to NJ for the summer to try and help out a little bit... I just dont know what to do about the trip...

Well, it depends......

As you know, I brought Rick with me for Memorial Day weekend just two weeks after total knee replacement. However, I didn't let him do ANYTHING he shouldn't.

He only drove about a 1/4 of the trip. The rest of the trip, he was propped up in the backseat with that knee up. He spent a lot of the trip sitting in a lawn chair with the leg propped, or laying in bed.

If you think your Taz can fix things where that is your situation. (Sitting most of the trip in a lawnchair with the ankle propped). However, if you know in your heart that with the two little ones and your nature to do things yourself, you'll overdo it, then it might be better to cancel.

Plus, if they set you up with physical therapy, it is usually 3 days a week for the first week or two. Going that long without PT might not be good.

See- there i my entire problem with being hurt at all... I have major problems not over-doing it... I've pushed myself so much at home I am now stuck on the sofabed with mt leg propped up and iced cause I cant do much more than that w/o agonizing pain...

Matt would gladly let me sit there all weekend and do nothing- he even offered to buy me a zero gravity recliner and promised not to get on my case about drinking :lmao: if thats not true love, I dont know what is...

Also- we would probably either have my dad with us still or a very good friend to help Matt out with the boys...

I didnt think of the PT aspect... I guess I'll have to check with my doc about that...

what an Anniversary present I get this year... major drugs and surgery... its a wonder we've lasted this long without it :laughing:

We will be there coming in on Thurs night, I have a chair we can lend you. I think it is what you are talking about. We can also help out, as we don't plan on going to the parks much, maybe not at all. Our friends will be with us. So if Matt takes the boys into the parks or around, we will be there to help you if you need anything.

What I'm really hoping for is that my MIL will take Matty for a few weeks, my parents already offered to take the other 3 for the summer... if thats the case- I'll be at the Fort with a nice comfy chair and a few cases of beer :thumbsup2

I have to talk to my Dr tomorrow about the PT deal and Matt still needs to talk to his mom... worst case, I'd have Matty with me so its not that bad...

right now I'm just upset cause I'm facing about 12 weeks of agony and I'm not a happy camper about that at all....
