Looking to purchase a BCV with 150 points but how does adding on points work? Do you buy 50 add-on points for one year or for
the whole term? What do they cost and is it safe to assume that increases the maintenance cost?

I’m not a member yet but how can I view all resorts (300 +) that a DCV can stay at and the points associated with them?

I’ve seen various points being stated for the DCL but not sure if they are per person or per cabin. For example: How many points would it be in 2003 for a Cat 10 for 2 adults?

Points that you purchase are good until 2042 when DVC ends. Each year you will get an allotment of that many points. You can buy additional points (add-ons) at your home resort or at another DVC resort. 25 is the minimum purchase. Yearly dues are assessed "per point" in the $3-$4 range (different for each resort). So, you do pay more in dues if you own more points.

Points are per person for the cruise lines. Number of points is also dependent upon when you want to cruise. Someone else can probably give you the figures.

I'm not sure where you can view a current list of all the resorts. DVC offers Adventure packages (like biking trips, safaris, etc.) and deals with various hotels that work off a set number of points per night for each property. When you trade for a week at another timeshare, they negotiate a rate rather than work off a set chart.

I can answer two of your questions.

If you buy an add-on, it is for the "whole term" - i.e., for the remaining years until the DVC ends in 2042. Yes, it will increase your annual maintenance fees. Mtce fees are per point and vary by resort. THe current mtce fee for the BCV is $3.77/point. The annual fee for 150 points would be $565.50. IF you buy an add on of 50 points, your annual fee would increase by $188.50 for a total yearly fee of $754.00

As far as I know, there isn't any way to view all 300+ options and the associated points before you buy. That is a good question for your guide. If you plan to exchange via II, the point cost varies.

The DCL point charts are per person and assume double occupancy. In order to tell you the points for a 2003 cruise, in a Cat 10, I'd need to know when you plan to cruise and whether you want the 3 day, 4 day or Eastern 7-day or Wetern 7 day option. Just as an example, the 4 day cruise in regular season (cruises departing between 2/17/2002 - 3/24/2002 & 4/7/2002 - 9/1/2002) would be 111 points per adult or 222 for the cat 10 cabin. Children or extra adults in the same cabin would cost 14 (ages 2 and under), 63 ( ages 3-12), 69 (ages 13 and over).

Good luck with your decision making process.

piranha66 - I have a copy of the 2003 DCL point requirements chart that I can email to you. It is in Adobe Acrobat Reader (.pdf) format. Send me a PM with your email address if you want me to email it to you. Carol

I was looking for DCL points for early May trip on Eastern Cruise line for 2 adults in Cat 10 or Cat 11. This is a 7 day cruise.

One more question: how much do add-on points cost?

Thanks for all the other info.

Thanks!
Dave

Points cost the same. It doesn't matter if they are for a new contract or an add on contract. IIRC, points (purchased from Disney) are currently $75 each, and they will soon go up to $80 each. Believe the price increases on June 1, 2002. Points bought via resale vary. You can often negotiate the price with the seller.

Early May 2003 is Value Season. You can depart either 5/3 or 5/17 for the 7 night Eastern Caribbean Cruise. A cat 10 cabin is 138 points for each of the first 2 adults and a cat 11 is 131 points for each of the first 2 adults.

Add-on points are sold at the going DVC rate. So if you bought an add-on today it would be $75 a point. If you waited until after the price increase in June, they would be at $80/pt.
