Hello :)
My husband and I have finally decided to officially purchase a dvc. We are having trouble deciding which resort to purchase points from. We decided to purchase direct so that we can receive the extra benefits but would love feedback on if it's worth waitlisting resorts like baylake or animal kingdom? Or if it's just smarter to purchase points in the resorts currently being offered. We were loving the idea of the Poly but not loving the idea that there aren't any one or two bedroom villas there. Would love to know if it's easy as a member to book in other resorts then your home resort since we are really interested in getting to experience multiple resorts.

Thanks so much!

FYI, to get the extra benefits, you can purchase resale, then add on direct for 25 points. This way, you save $$$ and still get the direct benefits that are actually useful.

To expand on this point, the only advantage you would have to buying direct over the method @fredgrau suggested is the abillity to use your points to book a cruise, concierge collection resort, or Adventures by Disney. All of which are poor uses of the points in terms of economic value.

Spend some time on these boards and decide for yourself whether or not to go direct. Opinions are certainly not lacking around here.

If you want to buy Poly or CCV, buy direct.

Otherwise, buy resale. After closing, buy 25 points direct as an add on, same use year.

Rough value of points when used for cruises is less than the annual maintenance for most resorts costs, which is to say it won't even account for the initial capital outlay on a return basis. (The exception is if you book a cruise later in cycle when prices have gone up, and Disney cruises are wildly overpriced and you should consider not doing that.)

You are buying a timeshare. All the pixie dust around "membership!!!" is marketing and branding. Only you can really decide how many thousands of dollars that is worth to you, when you can get the same major values/benefits for less.

What ever you decide, you will have to live with it until you sell. Deciding on your resort is difficult without staying there first. We bought several resorts without staying there first and we never stay there now.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are def going to research more and look into resale. Do you find it difficult to book rooms in resorts other then your home resort? Also any resale websites you would suggest? Thank you again so much for the info these boards are great!

It can be, depending on room type, resort and season. As new resorts are added, small, popular resorts get harder to book at 7 months year-round. In fall, expect to probably stay at your home resort.
