we are looking to relocate to the east side of Florida soon. Any help with communities to look at would be appreciated. We would like to be within 10 miles from the coast, 55+ area, jobs aren't really a concern. Looking for a safe area that has some stores, restaurants, parks and quiet type things to do;not really looking for a party type area. Thanks.

I only know of The Villages, which is about a hour north of WDW. I know of someone that bought in 10 years ago and he was telling me how expanded the place has become. No more small village.

When buying in a 55+community, you need to really check out all the extra's and the cost that correlate's with those extra's, and the HOA fee's. Also look at the HOA rules, there are so many, everything from parking, to how many guest you can have, and family visiting and for how long. Some friends just went this route and after really digging into all the rules and HOA rules, they decided it wasn't for them. They ended up buying in Ocoee in a brand new smaller development that had what they wanted included in the HOA fee's and the ability to have family and friends come and visit and stay as long as they wanted to, or grandkids staying for the summer. They almost went with Mount Dora, but the brand new home won out.

You might just want to get in your car and drive around checking out all the small little towns and communities that there are and which one feels like home.

Thanks for the advise. We are heading down in September to look around. We like the idea of an adult community but just aren't sure yet. Not sure pricewise if it is worth it with all their fees and their rules. Thanks again.

Where in Ocoee? Do you know the name of the development? How far from Disney?

Ocoee is about 20 miles or so from WDW. There are a lot of smaller communities, Clermont, Winter Garden, Leesburg, St Cloud, Apopka, Deland(which is between Orlando and Daytona) also Deltona. I think its Arden Park, but they looked at so many communities. You can look up builders in this area and see what they offer.

Palm Coast would be an area I would look at as well as the new Margaritaville area they are building in Daytona.
