Does anyone have any suggestions? We are looking to go the first or second week of December. The children will be 5 and 3. ANything we shouldn't miss for sure. :santa: :cold: What is the temp like in Florida at this time?
Any suggestions or advice would be great. THANK YOU

ooo! Christmas! Well, there are a few things not to miss. :)

1. During the first week, they will be taping the Christmas parade, with Regis & Kelly. There's some celebrity fun for you! ;)

2. Anytime you go, visit the Grand Floridian gingerbread house display. It's amazing!!!

3. If you can afford it, try Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade! It's also amazing and it will be very fun for the kids. :)

If you are thinking of going first or second week Dec 2006 and do not yet have a ressie, you should call promptly to see what if anything is available. That is one of DVC's hardest to get times of year if you do not book well in advance.

Definitely see Osborne Lights at MGM; Country Bear Jamboree if you have never gone at Christmas time because its show is different at that time.

Weather can vary. Often it is sunny, mid 70's, even low 80's. However, sometimes it rains (and it can be a continuous much of the day rain rather than the quick showers you see often in other times of the year) and some times it can be cool with highs only in the 50's.

Second week, great time to go, good luck on getting a ressie.

Lots of members are on the wait list already for that time. I think your chance of getting a member to make a reservation for you are pretty slim.

We have had our ressies for a 2 bedroom from 12/2-12/12 since January. I'm a bit skeptical that there will be much coming through at this late date. Maybe if you waitlist with no preferences as to unit size or resort, but I wouldn't hold my breath on too much specific. That is especially true if you are looking for a studio.

I have to agree. I have been waitlisted since February for a studio at my home resort VWL!

FYI, one of the reasons DVC is so popular that time of year is because the point schedules are so much less, and the decorations and shows are all up and running. Also, the park crowds are minimal, so it's just a great time to go. That's really why DVC members use that time of year so much, and also why point stays the first 2 weeks of December at DVC resorts can be VERY valuable!

I have a question to piggyback on here. What are the chances of booking at OKW at 7 months out for the first two weeks of December? I knew there were availability issues with some of the resorts at this time- particularly VWL- but was hoping the larger resorts would be available. We own at BCV, but wanted to go with OKW for our trip in '07 because it's quieter.

Thanks,
Julie

Kind of depends on the size unit etc, but I think 7 months out you will be fine for OKW. Especially if you are booking a 2 bedroom.

Thanks Diane, that's what we're hoping to do. We own at BCV, but the kids fell in love with OKW last year.

All of you have been great. :cheer2: We own at the BCV and are actually looking to go DEC 2007 and want a 2bdrm villa. Our son is autistic and we will need to travel with a one on one for him. (Hopefully). Can I book my plans now? :santa:

You can book 7 months from the date of check out. I guess I would probably do a day by day reservation for that time period.

If you are booking your home resort (BCV) you can book 11 months from your check-out date (Jan 2007).If you are booking a non-home resort, you can reserve 7 months from check out (May 2007). December is such a busy time, if you are planning to stay in a non-home resort, you should book at your home resort at 11 months and then switch your reservation to the non-home resort at 7 months out.

Also, many people opt to book day by day for December, particularly if you are booking one of the smaller resorts (BCV, VWL) or trying for special rooms like Standard View or BW View at BWV, or going for a GV. To book day by day, starting 11/7 months from the second day of your trip (which is the "check out" day for your first night), call and book your first night. Tell MS that you are booking "day by day". They will hold off sending your confirmation until all nights are booked. The next day, call again to extend your reservation by one more night, and so on each day, until all nights are booked. Remind MS that the reservation is now complete and they will send out your confirmation letter.

Good luck!
