I was wondering if anyone can guide me. We are looking to add points on. How do I make a offer and where would I start looking? We were just on a cruise and were going to add on but they are so expensive so we thought we would try resale. Thanks in advance!

I would start by visiting the timeshare store web site (they are a board sponsor here ) http://www.dvc-resales.com/

you can also google "dvc + resale" and you'll find several other brokers that specialize in DVC.

look over what's lisited...making sure that it's at your home resort (if that's your desire) and the same use year as you current membership.

Then, contact the broker.

You can start searching the resale brokers to get an idea of what is available and the price.

In addition, I would start with what you want and how much you hope to pay. We just added on at BWV. We were hoping for the same UY (makes life much easier, IMO) but also decided that we were willing to go for a different one if the price was right. We ended up just getting 50 more points than we had planned to offset having the different UY.

Once you know what you want, how many points, then you can look and decide.

It took us 4 tries to get a seller to accept the price we wanted to pay (below asking price) but we were in no rush and figured at some point, we would find someone whose idea of fair was the same as ours.

Good luck!

Look at the ROFR thread on this board as well to see what's passed and at what price. We just added on 150 points BWV through Fidelity. Sharon was wonderful to work with. Asking price was $66. We offered $48. They countered with $60, we countered with $50 and they accepted. It's now in ROFR (Right of First Refusal) with Disney and we should hear back in a few weeks if it passed. If Disney doesn't buy it back at that rate (and I doubt they will, but never say never)... then it's all ours! :yay:

Good luck!!!

Can I ask what trying to buy in same use year means? I see the use month that you buy into but what does it mean by use year? For example if we buy from resale with a use in March then should I look to only add points in the future in the month of MArch? I am a bit confused?

some people say "use year" instead of "use year month." same basic thing.

if you own a contract with a march UY and buy a resale contract with a march UY (that is ALSO titled the same), then both contracts can be combined under one membership number and they are easier to use.

note that they can still be sold or willed separately...and if you buy different home resorts, you only get the 11-month home resort advantage for each home resort based on the number of points you own at THAT resort.

ah i see. Thank you so much. Is there a minimum point that one has to own in order to get that 11 month window? Can I buy 100 points at one resort then add points at another resort and still get an 11 month reservation at that resort or do I need to purchase a certain amount of points? Thanks so much for your help. It is much more understandable reading it on disboards than trying to figure it out on my own lol

if you buy a 1000 pt SSR contract and add-on (direct or resale) a 25 pt BLT contract, each would be a "home resort" but only for the number of pts you own at each one.

so if you buy 1000 SSR pts and 25 BLT pts, you can book BLT at 11 months out with pts from that 25 pt contract...or book SSR at 11 months with pts from that 1000 pt contract. at 7 months out - assuming both contracts are under the same member number (they would be numbered #####.001 and #####.002 for example) - you can combine the 1025 pts to book whatever is available.

to get more detailed, you can bank 25 BLT pts in 2011, and then book a stay at BLT at 11 months out using up to 75 BLT pts using 25 banked BLT pts + 25 current 2012 BLT pts and 25 borrowed BLT pts from 2013...doesn't matter if you are using banked/borrowed/current BLT pts or even BLT pts transferred in from another BLT owner...but ONLY BLT pts will let you book BLT at 11 months out. as one poster puts it, you need the right "currency" at 11 months out.

your 1000 SSR pts can only be used to book BLT at 7 months (and vice versa.)

in short, there is no way to buy pts at resort A and use them at resort B at 11 months out...but a minimum size contract of 25 pts will still get you the 11 month window at that specific resort.
