I am looking for some sort of backpack with a leash -(this sounds horrible but I don't know how else to explain it). I was told that they were seen on serveral kiddos in Disney. But I have no idea where to begin to look for one for DS5-autism. I plan of getting a stroller for him just so he has a "safe" place to "hide" for the commotion of Disney - should he need to do this. But I am worried about the times he wants to walk and I could really use something in our daily activities at home too (shopping, ballgames)

TIA

DIS TO THE RESCUE!!!!

don't know of a backpack but we had a fanny pack one. i think i got it from 'first steps' (or a similarly named company). either the adult could wear the fanny pack and the child could be clipped or use a wrist holder to the end, or the child could wear the fanny pack and the adult could be clipped/wrist banded.

it had a decent length to it-not so short you were side by side but not so long as to cause problems in a crowded situation.

i don't think it's horrible at all-we used them with both our kids when they were younger, it's hard locating when someone who may wander off is not at your eye level-we felt safer using these.

We had some that were like a vest of sorts that zipped up the back. They were just straps that went over the shoulders and around their waist. I used them when the twins were toddlers if we went to the mall, zoo or whatever. DS14 was 4 and the twins were 1 and if one of them took off, they all took off, in different directions. It was the only way to keep them contained :rotfl2: . I got ours at Walmart or Target in the baby section but this was 10 years ago.

I found this it isn't what we had but sounds like something like you are talking about:

:disrocks: :thanks: Thank you so much.

I had ever seen one that didnt go to the child's wrist which isnt to hard to get out of. But my MIL keeps telling me she saw them when they were in Disney in March. So I didnt know if it was something I had to purchase there or what.

thanks again
I will be ordering mine soon- I am going to target today and will check there first.

the clip on the one we had was ideal to use through a belt loop :teeth:

Nothing wrong with wanting to keep track of your child while still allowing them a little freedom- just watch in crowds because you can trip someone if the child is taking off in a direction opposite you- that or your child gets knocked over and stepped on...

We had the wrist one and a harness for ds- now 18- and it was great to have- we used the wrist one in lower crowd settings like going to the mall or grocery shopping- but used the harness one in places with more crowds- or when my parents had a pontoon boat- we'd put the harness on before the life jacket- and my dad had a ring in the center of the boat that gave him enough slack to walk all over most of the boat- without being able to bail over the side (something he enjoyed doing)

I didn't use them as much for my next two kids dds now 14 and 8 just because their personalities were a bit different- but I can see with ds2 we could use one in certain situations and I'd get one for a place like WDW

Try Toys R Us and baby departments of stores like Target and Walmart- I know I've seen them at these places in the past

My dd & I saw one at the DLR Downtown Disney that a child was wearing - it was a puppy backpack, and the tail was the leash. The little girl looked so cute with her little backpack.

I needed one of those when my own dd was that age. (& have the gray hairs to prove it!)

Thanks again - ALL of you for your input. I was really confused at first but now I cant wait to go get one.

I am also glad to know that I am not the only one that wants my kids close at hand.

We have the bear one that is a backpack- I think Target sells them for about $15.
