Looking far a warm weather wheelchair accessible destination. Perhaps in the Caribbean. Or perhaps you can tell me where to look for information. I'd love to do Disney again, but I'm being out voted. If you've been to a resort that you think would fit the bill, I'd love to hear about it.:upsidedow

you might want to check out this website http://www.gimponthego.com/index.htm under reviews there is a resort in Puerto Rico listed that sounds good. ( ok anyplace warm sounds good to me right now :thumbsup2

another place to check out is http://www.disaboom.com/Living/Lifestyle/Travel/Articles.aspx

and definitely consider a cruise... my husband is a wheelchair user and I have to say the best vacation for me .. is when we go on a cruise.. everyone is so helpful maybe you can think about a Disney cruise??????? :cheer2: :cheer2: Let me know if you have any questions.

You will find that just about anywhere in the Caribbean will not be accessible. ADA does not apply. And when I wandered around in St Thomas in my ECV during a cruise I found accessibility to be very poor; it seems ADA is not enforced in territories and possessions.

When we went to the Dominican Republic, the resort we stayed at had few, if any stairs around the common areas and we had a first floor room. You could get to the beach and everything. It is a resort frequented by Canadians, so that might have something to do with it. It is called the Grand Ventana resort. However, I don't know if any of the rooms were handicapped accessible, as we didn't request one. Good luck. :)

I like that Hawaii suggestion. I'm hoping to make it there for my 25th Anniversary later this year if air prices go down a bit. :thumbsup2

My reasons to go to Hawaii.

ADA

I'd love to visit Hawaii, but since I wouldn't be able to bring my service dog, it's not gonna happen. I agree that the Caribbean is not accessible. I enjoy cruising but rarely enjoy the ports since I can't get around. Just a lack of stairs isn't enough- there have to be curb cuts too and unless there's a sand wheelchair, someone in a w/c can't get through sand to really enjoy a beach destination.---Kathy

Well, Kathy, it looks more possible for you than for Cash and I.....

Funny how Hawaii doesn't feel the need to follow the ADA, though...

"Different rules apply to assistance dogs (as opposed to pet dogs), as a result of a lawsuit by guide dog users. If you meet certain requirements, you can keep your dog with you after only a brief examination in the Honolulu airport. Before you go, you must:

Get a letter from a physician setting out your disability, unless your dog is a guide dog.
Get an ID card or certificate that shows that the dog was trained at a specialized school.
Have an identifying microchip implanted in the dog.
Make sure your dog's rabies vaccination is current, and have documentation.
Have the dog undergo a blood test for rabies.
Get a health certificate issued within two weeks before arrival.
Notify the animal quarantine station at least 24 hours before you arrive, so they'll be ready to take an immediate blood sample from the dog when you get there.
When the dog arrives in Honolulu, airline personnel will take it to the Airport Animal Quarantine Holding Facility. There, the quarantine officials will examine the paperwork and the dog. If everything is in order, you should be able to leave, with your dog, in about 15 to 20 minutes."
