Looking for wedding reception songs that aren't the "usual" ones.

I would not recommend this one but it was pretty funny-my friends danced their first dance to "I'm to Sexy" from Right Said Fred. It was a VERY fun reception!!

Here's one I bet no one else had had at their reception:

The Time Warp -- The Rocky Horror Picture Show song.

See, DH and I met at the RHPS. We were friends (and were actually) cast members with a group that performed at RHPS.

So it was so fitting to have the Time Warp played. And yes we actually did the cast parts complete with props!

All good choices! However, "What are you doing the rest of your life".....I heard this many times at Anniversary parties.

I'm CRAZY about this song!!!

Definitely check out the version done by Sting and Chris Botti on Chris's To Love Again album. It's FANTASTIC!!!

Another really sweet song that I used for the slideshow I made for my nephew's rehearsal dinner is When You Know by Shawn Colvin - from the Serendipity soundtrack. Definitely one that isn't well known...

Oooh, I just thought of another one! "Even When I'm Sleeping" by Leonardo's Bride:

Don't be confused by my apparent lack of ceremony, my mind is clear.
I may be low or miles high off in the distance, I want you near.
I love you
Even when I'm sleeping.
When I close my eyes you're everywhere.
And if they take me flying on the magic carpet, see me wave.
If our communication fails I'll reconnect it, I want to rave.
I love you
Even when I'm sleeping.
When I close my eyes you're everywhere.
No matter where the road is leading us remember don't be afraid.
We have a continent that sometimes comes between us, that's ok.
I love you
Even when I'm sleeping.
When I close my eyes you're everywhere.

I walked down the aisle to this song and I still love it today.

Longer by Dan Fogelberg

Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens
I've been in love with you.

Stronger than any mountain cathedral
Truer than any tree ever grew
Deeper than any forest primeval
I am in love with you.

I'll bring fires in the winters
You'll send showers in the springs
We'll fly through the falls and summers
With love on our wings.

Through the years as the fire starts to mellow
Burning lines in the book of our lives
Though the binding cracks and the pages start to yellow
I'll be in love with you.

Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens
I've been in love with you
I am in love with you..

Oh, I love this song. I never knew who sang it or what it was called. I heard it on the radio one time. Thanks for posting it.

The last wedding I went to the song after the first dance was My Humps, followed by other songs of the sort. Definitely not "usual," but not ones I would suggest either....

If I ever get married again (:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: ), I'm insisting any of these..."I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith, and "Absolute Beginners" and "As the World Falls Down" by David Bowie. Leaning more toward the Bowie ones...

My wedding song was 'Wonderful Tonight" which I still love, but wish this one was around when we got married in 1989 by Bon Jovi, it's beautiful:

"Diamond Ring" -

Diamond ring, wear it on your hand
Its gonna tell the world, Im your only man
Diamond ring, diamond ring
Baby, youre my everything, diamond ring

Red, red rose brought it home to you
Blood red rose, tells me that youre true
Red, red rose, blood-red rose
Like a fire inside that grows, blood-red rose

When youre hungry, I will fill you up
When youre thristy, drink out of my loving cup
When youre crying, Ill be the tears for you
Theres nothing that I wouldnt do for you

When youre hungry, I will fill you up
When youre thristy, drink out of my loving cup
When youre crying, Ill be the tears for you
Theres nothing that I wouldnt do for you

You know, I bleed every night you sleep
cause I dont know if Im in your dreams
I want to be your everything...

Diamond ring, wear it on your hand
Its gonna tell the world, Im your only man
Diamond ring, diamond ring
Baby, youre my everything, diamond ring
Darling, youre my everything, diamond ring
Now, youve got me on your string... diamond ring

As for unusual, my DH's BF danced to Meatloaf's 2 Out of 3 Ain't Bad at his first wedding. The next song was I Got You Babe.

They went to Alaska for 2 weeks on their honeymoon and when they got home his new wife told him she didn't know that she liked this "being married" thing. They were divorced within the year.

I've liked reading these songs. I'm putting together a DVD of the still pictures I took at my DH's cousin's wedding last Friday and I didn't know what song to use. I'm leaning towards Longer or In Your Eyes. I've already used Don't Wanna Miss a Thing on a DVD I created for DD's GS troop. For the last one I made I used Unwritten for the girls.

I'm leaning towards Longer or In Your Eyes. .

I wanted In Your Eyes (I'm assuming it's Peter Gabriel's) for my wedding song, but it didn't work out.

We, as rhythmically challenged couple, couldn't figure out how to dance during the Swahili part.

DH's first suggestion was "Rocky Mountain Way," by Joe Walsh. :faint:

We ended up with "Arianne," sung by Johnny Mathis. It is a beautiful song - poetic although almost pornographic! - but we picked it more because it had a special meaning for us. Most people wouldn't pick it, that's for sure.

But you're free to go with "Rocky Mountain Way," if you want. DH would love you, but you might not end up married, so You Make The Call. :)

And that leads into "Promise" by Kellie Coffey. I've always thought that would make a great wedding song.

Check out the lyrics.

Too late, we're already using it!

;)
:rotfl: Don't listen to him...we'll share ;)

We're getting married in 2 weeks and are using it as our last song of the night.

Our first song will be Beautiful by Wayne Brady and Jim Brickman. (I think on the Jim Brickman, anyway...) It's on the Cinderella dvd that was released a couple of years ago.

Good luck choosing!

I always thought it would be fun to have the wedding party walk (or dance) in to "Legs" and "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top.

That idea was nixed for my first wedding, but if I ever marry again....... let's just say it is going to be totally non-traditional and fun.

I was at a wedding where the first dance was Mustang Sally - fun!!

This is what we danced to at our wedding. I will warn you it is considered country, but it is a beautiful song. I especially lliked it because of this line "When today is just a memory to me, I know, I'll still be loving you."

Restless Heart
I'll still be loving you

Changin my life... with your love
has been so easy for you
And I'm amazed
Every day
And I'll need you....

Till all the mountains are valleys
and every ocean is dry
My love.....

I'll be yours until the sun doesn't shine
Till time stands still
until the winds don't blow
When today is just a memory to me
I know.....
I'll still be loving
I'll still be loving
You
I'll still be loving you

Never Before..
did I know
How loving someone could be
Now I can see
You and Me
For a lifetime

Until the last moon is rising
you'll see the love in my eyes
My Love....

I'll be yours until the sun doesn't shine
Till time stands still
until the winds don't blow
When today is just a memory to me
I know.....
I'll still be loving
I'll still be loving
You

(instrumental)

I'll be yours until the sun doesn't shine
Till time stands still
until the winds don't blow
When today is just a memory to me
I know.....
I'll still be loving
I'll still be loving
You

I'll still be loving you.
I'll still be loving..I'll still be loving you...
I'll still be loving..I'll still be loving you...
I'll still be loving..I'll still be loving you...
