A lot of the newer pools are now salt water. The salt cannot be tasted at all and there is a an extra piece of equipment installed that converts the salt to chlorine as the pool needs it.
This basically means that the pools chroline levels are very low, which stops the aweful chroline taste and smell, and for a lot of people with sensitive skin it also stop the chroline reaction.
I can't swim for long in a chrorine pool without my eyes going very red, but I have no problems in a salt water pool.
A small advantage for an owner is that the pool water doesn't bleach the carpets, furniture or the towels.
