Looking for thoughts and opinions on....

My family (myself, DH, and DD (7)) already have a trip to Disneyland planned for January 2015. After much thought, I have decided to upgrade our 5 day park hopper tickets to the Premium Annual Passports since we are going again at the end of July 2015 for a family reunion. I am contemplating adding in a surprise trip for DD. I'm trying to decide if I should add a trip in for October 2014, for her birthday, or if it would be better to add an Easter trip in 2015.

Our January trip is a biggie. We are staying onsite at GCH for just under a week and we have two character meals planned. If I do a trip in 10/14, will it take the sails out of our January trip? I'm kind of leaning towards Easter, but I just don't know....

Any opinions or thoughts are welcome.

Sounds like you have two great trips planned already!!
Ive been around Easter and in October. October is amazing! The fall/ Halloween offerings and decor are really great! And a birthday trip is always a great idea! If the budget and time allows you could also add an evening at Mickeys Halloween party! I dont think it will take the sails out of a future trip. We once took a trip and then won tickets to go again two weeks later. There is always something new to see and do. We frequently take trips within a month or two of eachother.
We were not impressed with Disney's offerings around Easter. It was the week before Easter Sunday and soooo crowded. We would never go at that time again.

I agree with PP who says to go in October. The Halloween decorations are fantastic and there's lots of neat stuff going on. Less so in the spring for sure. Try to focus on things you know won't be doing in January (and rides that might be closed in January). Maybe consider going to MHP etc.

Approx how much to the Halloween party usually run? Is there any kind of Easter Egg Hunt in the spring, or would that be too religious for Disney to be able to offer? Not that an egg hunt is religious, but the Easter part...

Ok, I took your advice (and talked with my mom) and we decided to go for DD's birthday in October. One of the party nights is on her actual birthday, so we are going to do the party. She will be so surprised! I'm so excited!!

Approx how much to the Halloween party usually run? Is there any kind of Easter Egg Hunt in the spring, or would that be too religious for Disney to be able to offer? Not that an egg hunt is religious, but the Easter part...

In this post, under Question #8, you will see the prices for the Halloween party as well as a lot of other info about the party.

There are Easter egg hunts in both parks -- or there were this year, in any case. They were not the small, regular eggs, though. They were giant eggs, and pretty easy to find. I had a great time hunting the eggs in Disneyland and in California Adventure! It was a lot of fun!

Also, there is something called the Springtime Roundup, where there is an amazing collection of "egg art" -- fake eggs made into amazing Disney character images (can you see the Olaf egg in my signature below?). Some of the eggs are designed by one of the guys who carves the awesome character pumpkins at the Halloween Carnival during Halloween Time. You can also meet all of the Disney rabbits and the Easter Bunny at the Roundup. There are lots of beautiful flowers and spring-ish decorations too.

I really loved the Egg hunts and the Springtime Roundup! Here is a thread about Easter at Disneyland. Vintage Mousketeer posted some photos in it.

It is a hard ticket event, and you NEED to buy the tickets well in advance (in other words, look now if you are thinking about it). I think it is worth the extra price to see the characters in their costumes and to participate in all the other events.

Yes, indeed! Don't delay too long on the tickets. They will eventually sell out. (I am somewhat familiar with Mickey's Halloween Party and Halloween Time. )
