Looking for the Family Fun Mickey Head design

DD and I made these last year and they turned out nice. The only issue we had was DD didn't make her lines thick enough and connected, so she had some areas that weren't a full white line. (the colors seeped through)


The paint I found at a Michael's, but not all of them sold it. It was liquid in spray bottles.

My daughter made six of these shirts in black. Her Marching Band is going to WDW in late December and she thought these would make a nice "spirit day" gift for her squad members at Band Camp next week. This picture shows three of the shirts. The one in front is not as white as it appears.

How did she do these black ones? Did she spray paint color on them and then draw the Mickey heads with black fabric paint? They came out really nice!

We used the spiral cutout from this thread, placed it on the washed black shirt, and used Elmer’s glue to create the outline. After the glue dried, we sprayed the color “Textured White” from the brand “Stencil Spray” (sold at both Michaels and JoAnns’) over the dried glue and a little beyond the outline. We let this dry about an hour and them came back with the "colors" spritzing one color at a time in a random pattern. The colors we used were from the Tulip Spray 4 pack with the “neon” colors of pink, orange, yellow, green. This is also sold at Michaels and JoAnns’. We let this dry 3 days and washed.

Tips/Notes: If using the Stencil Spray, don’t pull the trigger too hard. If you do, it will stop spraying and you will have a full can of paint with no way to spray. There are directions on the website to engage the trigger again, but this didn’t work for us. Before buying 6 shirts, we tested this on an old black shirt we had. When we washed the shirt, the washable Elmer’s glue did not come out for us………we had to pick it off. When doing these shirts, I soaked the shirts in cold water for an hour, took our finger nails, and pushed off the glue, then washed.

OK, the boys went a little overboard with the paint, but they had so much fun. They painted the front and the back of their shirts. I made shirts for my husband and myself, too. We wore them to MK and got a lot of compliments.

Does it matter if the shirts are 100% cotton or a 50/50 cotton/poly blend?

I'm not sure if it matters. I used 100% cotton and it worked great.

We made these shirts for our first trip to WDW in '06 and they still look great, but the boys have grown out of theirs.

We are going to make new ones with orange shirts and black spray for our upcoming (sorta halloween) DL trip.

Has anyone tried this with a colored shirt and sprayed it with bleach?

Bleach sounds risky to me, not knowing how much color it will strip. Also since it's more liquid than paint it would be more likely to bleed under the flour or glue so you could end up with very blurry lines. We'll never know unless someone feels like experimenting. Maybe use an old shirt to do a patch test?

No, but we did some bleach "tie-dying" this summer and different shirts DEFINITELY bleached in different ways. The bright orange Hanes t-shirt I bought for DS at ACMoore barely bleached out at all, but DD's bright magenta t-shirt from Old Navy did GREAT! It really seemed to work differently on every shirt (there were 11 different shirts, some new, some old, some all cotton, some blends, etc). I had a new Mickey tank from the Disney Store (light blue with a sparkly Mickey on the front). It bleached out so much that there was no tie-dye design at all. PLus it stretched all out of shape for some reason.

You might need to experiment with this. And the PP was right about it possibly bleeding under the design, since bleach is so much more liquidy than the spray paint. Not sure how to resolve that. Good luck......P

love this idea, I'm making a "test" model this weekend. The shirt is in the dryer now, having washed it before starting the process.

I think they'd be great for our MVMCP!!!! Eight of us from 50 something to 2!!!

I can't find the spray fabric paint. I wonder if the tulip brand regular fabric paint would work? Maybe thin it with a little water and put in a spray bottle?

I've been meaning to post pictures and am finally getting around to it. Maybe someone will benefit for their upcoming trip.

We made ours orange and black for Halloween. I used Elmer's glue for the Mickey heads instead of flour/water mixture and it worked great. I found the spritz type spray dye in a 4 pack of neon colors and just used the orange. I didn't see black spray dye, so I bought black fabric paint. I was able to put the paint in a spray bottle and thin it down with water. We ended up with more of an 80's paint splatter look for the black portion, but it worked.

I guess the orange was a little more neon that I thought. When we met Alice, she told the White Rabbit "Ooo... do not look directly into their shirts!"

Does anyone know...can you just put tie-dye liquid in a spray bottle or do you have to buy a special kind of paint? We went to WDW last year with a group of 14 and we all made 2 tie-dyes. This time, it will just be our family of 4 so I'd like to try these. Thanks!!
