Looking For Suggestions

When I'm staying OP (which hasn't been often enough lately :blush: ) I'm usually on a low fat/low calorie diet. I'd like to incorporate eliminating sugar as well. I'm stuck on good snack and breakfast options though. Has anyone got any suggestions for quick easy snacks and breakfast? Right now I tend to have cereal for breakfast but I'm guessing there are a lot of hidden sugars there. Any help would be very much appreciated. ::yes::
 
I love light Rye bread, toasted, with a wedge of laughing cow cheese. (2 slices of bread and 1 wedge of cheese is only 2 points on WW.) For a snack, I have a bag of raspberries every day! I buy them in the freezer section at Walmart. A 12oz bag is $1.98, and you can add CoolWhip Free for a sweet treat.
 
Lowfat or fat free yogurt works well for a snack and at breakfast. You could scramble an egg for breakfast and add a piece of fruit of choice. For a snack you could have some veggies (and a little dip if you wish) along with a little cheese or cottage cheese (low fat, of course). ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo
 
Is fruit ok when you are trying to eliminate sugar? Will natural sugars be ok? I really am unsure how far to go with cutting out sugar.
 

I wouldn't give up fruits--there are sugars but they're also a high quality source of nutrition and fiber. If you're very concerned, you could stick to the lower sugar fruits like berries and melon. They have fewer sugars than banana or grapes.

Low sugar breakfast: Cheerios, Oatmeal (plain--add sweetener or fruit as you like), Low Sugar yogurt cups, English muffin/toast with peanut butter, Eggs/Eggbeaters in tortillas (add salsa if you like).

Snacks: lowfat cottage cheese, crispbread crackers, hummus, nuts, quesadillas with low fat cheese and salsa

On the South Beach message boards, one person suggested mixing cottage cheese with sugar free jello. It tastes more like a fruit salad that way and its sugar free. Works for me when I need a sweeter snack. Otherwise, I love fresh mozzarella marinated in olive oil, italian parsley and sundried tomatoes. My grocery sells it in a tub and its heavenly. Nuts are another good one, not low fat but a good fat and no sugar.
 
Thanks to you all for your help. ::yes:: I was really careful with the labels when I went food shopping today and checking not just calories and fat but sugar as well. Lots of hidden sugar in things! I did get some watermelon, pineapple, and cheerios as well as low fat string cheese. :tongue: I'm ready to give the sugar free or at least much less sugar life a go. :teeth:
 
I have been taking frozen blueberries (thawed or micro) and add ff plain yogurt with a little splenda. I have also done banana, strawberry.

I thought it wouldn't be good but it was.

Also 94% FF popcorn gets me throught the day without snacking alot.
 
I love the Fat Free Jello or Pudding cups. They satisfy that craving and are 100 clories and no fats.
Also check the labels for sugar carbs, if they are above 15, avoid it.

I have a fat free yogurt, again check those sugar carbs, you will be surprised. I may also have a low fat cottage cheese, usually flavored with chives or fruit. Also a mini-bagel is great, I use less than a teaspoon of butter substitute so they are low fat.
 
I've been cutting out refined sugars. It's been tough, but I'm starting to notice how much better things taste naturally. Fruit is actually a treat now, and tastes great, whereas before it was just what I ate to be "good."

My breakfast is a whole grain english muffin with all-natural peanut butter and sliced strawberries- so good!!! And, if I'm still hungry, I eat a banana. The protein from the peanut butter keeps me fuller longer.

For a morning snack, I sometimes do one of the light, sugar-free varieties of yogurt and mix in some grape nuts (no sugar added). In the afternoon, I graze on baby carrots to get my sweet fix.

It is so funny that you said grape nuts... I add it to mine and my DH thinks that it gross so funny I like how it adds a little crunch. :earboy2:

Probably :crazy: :rotfl: My DH isn't into it either.

I love crunchy foods! And, this is definitely better than chips.
My fav. is the Yoplait Apple Turnover- little bits of apple mixed in with grape nuts....YUMMY!
