Looking for something different...maybe a hidden gem? Thoughts on Maya Grill?

Maya Grill is honestly one of the most underwhelming meals we've had at Disney. We really enjoyed our lunch at Las Ventanas when we stayed at CSR, but it looks like that's breakfast-only now.

For something off the beaten path, I'd probably try Ale & Compass at the Yacht Club.

I cancelled Trails End for The Wave, but now I'm torn again. Ale and Compass and Olivia's also sound pretty good too. The Wave offers more options that I would want to order, but I would probably go with a seafood dish at any of the three restaurants.

We've eaten at Maya Grill twice during our two stays at CSR, and both times we really enjoyed it. The first time, it was the best meal of our trip! And as a pp mentioned, the strolling guitar player is very nice. Last time we brought friends from another resort (DVC members) and they really liked it, too, and are planning to go back.

I am trying to decide if I should try Maya Grill or something else possibly. I have Trails End booked, but I'm not sure if I want a buffet. We have been to most of all the more popular places, and so I am wanting to try something off of the beaten path. We tried GFC in April and it was amazing! It's now my new favorite, but I want to try something new again in October.
If you decide to go to Maya Grill, get there a little early and enjoy the atmosphere outside for a while first. Maybe walk the lagoon, or sit and have a drink outside before going in. I think that maybe some of the sense of being underwhelmed might come from taking in the restaurant just by itself, although I think it's a beautiful and relaxing place. But when you take it in as part of the whole resort, that may be where it shines. (I think of Narcoosee's in the same way.)

Maya Grill was okay. It is VERY similar to the 2 Mexican restaurants in EP. The Wave, Sanaa and Olivas have been hidden gems for us.

We loved both the Wave and Sanaa! We had heard Olivia's was a hidden gem, and tried it for breakfast. The food was great, but the service was really slow, even though it wasn't busy at all when we were there.

I have a question about The Wave. Does anyone know if the menu changes seasonally or is it pretty much the same all of the time?

I do think a portion of it changes.

I think you'll love The Wave!

Last time we had dinner there was admittedly in 2014 but the appetisers and entrees were surprisingly good.
Found the desserts to be poor.
Would definitely return and unless you hit a big conference it is definitely quiet for an on-site restaurant.
Sadly the buffet breakfast at Maya Grill is gone.we used to eat there 5/7 mornings on our first five trips it was so good and it was our main reason for repeatedly choosing CSR.
