Not sure if I'm allowed to post this, so delete if not.

My daughter is getting married at the end of September. We are doing the whole thing on a pretty tight budget.

I'm looking for someone that has some experience - not necessarily pro. I can do the editing of the RAW files to keep the cost lower, if you would be willing to give up that control.

Please let me know if you are interested, or know of someone who might be. Thank you!

It's a wedding. Get someone with experience. Someone who knows how to get the shots that the couple wants to capture, remember and share with others.

This is not a job for a guy with a camera just because he's cheap.

ElizK.. I see you're in Fort Worth. Not sure of your budget, but I know a few wedding photographers in the area who are building their businesses and have experience. I'll PM you some names. Another option is to find a photo major who is close to graduation (UTA has a great photo department :)). They'll have the skill set to get the job done but may lack some experience on the specific shots to get.

I hear you, but it is what it is. I do think there are other people out there like me, though... I have done a couple of weddings, doing another Saturday. (not paid for any of them). The couples have been happy with the results. Would they have preferred the pictures done by a professional? Probably. But I do have some skills myself, and love the opportunity to learn new things.

Thank you! I replied to your PM. Great suggestion re finding a photography major! Thank you.

I share this view. For the cost of a wedding, there is no way I would skimp on the photographer. I'm not saying you can't get great photos from a good photographer who is not a professional, but I would rather cut back on something else. I wouldn't want good photos when I could have great ones.

I guess we all have different things that are important to us, but I'd sooner cut the guest list than compromise on the potential of my pics.

Remember also that professional photographers carry insurance that most amateurs don't. That may be worth looking into as well and if you do go with a more cost effective option, please, at least make some inquiries as to what you get with the package.

Anyway, whatever you decide, I hope the day goes perfectly and there are many, many happy years to follow for your daughter and her husband and the whole family :goodvibes

You know, that photographer probably has shot hundreds of weddings and never had a complaint because many people are happy with crap. Just goes to show, anyone can call themselves a professional and get work.

If I were hiring a wedding photographer I'd look at technique in thier portfolio first for in focus, well exposed images that are free from oversharpening an other processing wonkiness (I'd ask for high res samples). Specific wedding expereince second. I'm not saying wedding expereince isn't important, it is. They need to know what to shoot. But you can have a photographer who has shot a hundred weddings who is truly awful (I've seen many). And you can find one who may have only done one weddng but has amazing skills and gives you solid images.

The old saying...... You get what you pay for. Pay cheap, you get cheap.

I used to do weddings in the days of film, worked for a studio. The owner didn't let me go out on my own for three months and when he was satisfied I knew what I was doing. There's more to it than you think.....and there is no I screwed up let's do it again.

Matter of fact I was trained so well that several times when the camera malfunctioned, that's why I carried three, I was able to retake shots without client knowing what happened. (certain shots you couldn't like going down the aisle etc., never had that happen, more like the poses.)

She'll get married once, pay for a good photogragher.

To echo what others said...

DH and I got married in September of last year and during planning the photographer was the single most important vendor to me. What do I have now? (other than an amazing husband ) Those pictures! They mean the world to me and I do not regret for a single second who we chose or what we spent.

My ex-SIL (we're still close) made the mistake of going with a cheap photographer for her (second) wedding in October. She cried for weeks over the pictures- they were much worse than she thought they'd be based on his portfolio and she has tried editing them herself to no avail. He missed some really key shots that she can never get back.

You can get a "deal", don't get me wrong- but do your homework and meet with a few. If you're looking for budget really shop around- there are some up and coming photographers in our area that show a lot of promise. It's hard to replace experience though- even over the last few years my photographer's work has only gotten better and better. When choosing- have a long discussion with them and ask to see an entire wedding portfolio - anyone can take a good shot every once in a while.

There are some moments you can't get back if they're missed...
