Looking for some suggestions to expand my lens selection with disney trips in mind.

I've just run a data plot against all Disney photos in my lightroom catalog (looking at all photos that contain "Disney" somewhere in their metadata, which amounts to roughly 900 photos) and it shows me the following about the focal lengths I've used compared the lenses you have:

only 26 of my photos are less than 24mm focal length
only 5 of my photos are more than 200mm focal length

If I run the same data plot for all my photos (nearly 2500), then I get something a little different:

Roughly 75 photos are less than 24mm focal length
Roughly 300 photos are more than 200mm focal length

Now - my "Disney" photos are not from WDW (they're from DLR and DLP) and therefore do not include Animal Kingdom. I know from experience that when I photograph animals in zoos, I tend to use my 300mm or 500mm zooms.

With all this in mind, then personally, I'd either stick with the lenses you have which wouldn't leave you missing that many shots, or if you "have" to buy another lens then I'd opt for a 300mm zoom which tends to be a good compromise of range vs portability and would prove quite useful at Animal Kingdom.

Thanks for looking. That helps. We are not doing animal kingdom so i may get the lighter 70-300l and leave the 2.8 version at home. Plus I always wanted something lighter past 70mm. The 16-35 seems nice but I am grabbing people not so much lanscapes.

I am going to purchase and bring the 16-35mm for canon 5d3. There is a wide angle thread on here with some awesome and imaginative pictures. I have never shot alot of wide angle but am looking forward to it. The 70-200 is mainly on my camera for sports. I really dont even like the 24-105 that came with it. My next choice would be a very fast 50mm. Great for dark rides.

Yeah i am torn since i just got my sigma 35 for rides ad want to leave the heavy 70-200 2.8 home but unsure if i will want to go after tighter shots and grab to 70-300l like bb outdoor show, las show. Or uwa with 16-35. Just not sure which will get used more. Also doing the jedi night this time and will want to get that. But i will be there on the 4th of july.

I really like the 50mm for walking around and pictures of family on rides and such because what you see is what you get. Plus with the 5d3 you can always magnify your image in post. And you can always shoot raw. I know alot of people like the 24-105 but my copy is just not that great.

Which 50mm do you like? 1.4 or 1.2l? I used the 1.4 it was small and light but unsure if the 1.2l is a better investment. I like my 35mm but its pretty wide

I do not own the 1.2 but plan on it. I have a friend that has one and for portrait the bokeh is unreal. I used an 85mm 1.8 for the halloween night time parade in MK and I could have used the extra speed the 50mm 1.2 offers. In my opinion you can never go too fast. It doesnt bother me to lug around camera gear when i have the itch for great photography. However sometimes we just bring point and shoots in the parks when I dont feel like lugging the backpack around. We are going in May and the way I am planning it is to each day bring a different lens and see what happens. My wife will have the point and shoot. Wide Angle for epcot and hollywood, 85mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.2 if i am lucky for nightime and MK, 70-200 for Animal kingdom. I have kids and dont have alot of time to switch lenses back and forth. So going to forego the backpack and just bring the camera and one lens per day. But if i had to pick just one it would be 50mm 1.2 and maybe a few extra memory cards if you decide to go raw. Good luck and have fun. On a side note I show my kids a lot of the photos from these forums and they always seem to really like the wide angle and also comment that those images are always better then what I come home with so I am definitely going alot of wide angle this trip since i will be getting the 16-35mm shortly before leaving for Disney.

Sounds like a good plan. You have me wondering if i should return thr sigma 35mm i bought and get the canon 50 1.2. I thought the wider prime would be better but now i am not sure.

Just to throw another one in there is the 24-70 II lens. By all accounts I have heard that this is a phenomenal lens and is very sharp even wide open. Would cover a lot of focal lengths you are looking for ?

Thanks but I have that one. I love it
