I will start looking at KEH I ATLEAST feel hopeful....I really don't want this to be her "guitar Christmas" - when I was her age I asked for a guitar because I DESPARATELY wanted to learn to play. Excitedly I waited for Christmas morning only to find a PLASTIC guitar - so NOT what I wanted...I was heartbroken

I can hardly believe the deal I got yesterday! After making friends with the local target Mgr and getting 80 $50 Disney Cards ($4,000) I made my way down to check for camera deals once again...figuring I had just saved $400 so just maybe I could afford some DSLR camera???? Much to my surprise on the shelf was the Nikon camera they had on their BFriday deal - just waiting for ME!!! I excitedly headed to the register figuring using my 20% coupon + 5% Pharm + 5% Redcard (30%) would bring me under $300! BUT ...at the register it range up its regular price $719.00...

I believe it is a Nikon 3200 - was on Black Friday Discount $499.00 then got my 30%off! Yippee!! It was "bundle" and came with another lens too!

I hope so! I think I need to buy an SD Card? Anything else needed on Christmas morning to get her started?

Possibly a card reader. Your computer may have an SD card reader already in it. I would check that out. Other then that nothing to stat taking pictures.

As she progresses possibly some editing software but that can wait.

I use Sandisk Extreme Class 10 cards. I have both 16 and 32mb cards. Always good to have a few. B&H ususally has sales on cards this time of year.

I recommend buying class 6 cards and higher. If you can afford class 10 get those. They write faster and if she is going to do video with the camera the faster the card the better

FWIW, A lot of newer cards are now UHS which is supposed to be at least as fast as class 10.

Amazon has been running some killer deals on SD cards lately. I picked up two Sandisk 32GB Micro SD UHS cards for around $17 each the other day. You'll want the regular SD cards though, not the micro ones. I'd check over there before buying elsewhere. Can't link anything yet because I don't have enough posts..
