Hi all you friendly and helpful fellow Canadians especially those who have been to PEI

We are going to PEI this summer and are spending most of our trip up at Shining Waters/Ingleside near Cavendish (we have two young kids so this area works the best for us)

http://www.shiningwatersresort.com/index.html

We need somewhere to stay first two nights and were looking for recommendations - this would be for a Fri and Sat night stay

Any suggestions/ideas?

thanks

we booked our PEI vacation the day after we arrived home from WDW!!!

Aren't you still there?!!!:D :D

Sorry we missed you guys....maybe we'll see you in PEI!

Were you planning on arriving in PEI on Friday?...or will Moncton/Sackville be a better choice for the weekend? (I'm assuming you're driving)

Remember, points aren't more expensive for Fri/Sat....;) ;)

LOL!!

You may want to try Rodd Hotel with the big indoor waterslide and pool. It is also really close to the Charlottetown Mall, Walmart, Sobeys, etc incase you have to stock up on items before you go to Cavendish (which you will find that everyday items are very expensive).

But I do agree with mbb. Moncton would be a great place to stay. Don't forget to stock up on canned pop and beer (if you drink these beverages) before coming to "The Island". Only glass bottles are sold over here and are pricey. (Juice is sold in cans though, because it is uncarbonated)

Thanks so far.....

MBB, sorry about the mixup - I was offered a job at another firm the week heading into the vacation - this created quite a flurry of activity in the household and at work

I actually took the new job so this threw my plans off a bit - the family is at Vero Beach now and I am on the home front working off my notice period then heading down this week then the new job next week then off again towards the end of the month

This year goes into the record books for fun, good fortune and blessings for us. I think someone has been tossing a lot of pixiedust our way lately :sunny:

We are flying into Charlottetown (bought our AC tickets the first day they went on sale to lock in a fairly low fare) - thanks for the idea on the Rodd hotel

LOL on the Fri/Sat reference - too funny

Funny you pointed out Moncton - that is what we did in 02 and then stayed in Sackville at a B&B for the first night (it was a really nice place run by a nice lady)

thanks again

cheers

Vero is well deserved!!:sunny: Pixie dust is given to those who give...:)

And I agree with Paula, the Rodd would be a great "settle in spot"...any of the Rodd's are really nice places to stay. Check the PEI website, they might have a "Family wknd Special" tkts for movies, dinner out, attractions, etc, for an "all-inclusive " price...

Have a great trip tomorrow - I wish we were going too!!!:sunny:

We live 40 minutes from the Bridge to PEI...I love my neighbors...People from PEI are soooooo nice. (I thought New Brunswickers were the nicest but now I think we are a close 2nd)

Hope you have a great time on your trip and if you have time drop by Shediac, NB and say hi...:wave2: You are going to LOVE PEI!!!

Just had to get in on the PEI discussion.

My wife and I had a very pleasant 5-6 day trip one summer a few years back (included NS & PEI). I consider visiting PEI one of the great finds of North America....coastal Nova Scotia too!

Although we originally booked our hotel at the Prince Edward (if memory serves), and I think this has since become a Delta Hotel....we didn't really like it's "feel" (too dark inside, restuarant right in the middle of the lobby!) and so moved on short notice to a Holiday Inn Express, just a little outside of town....turned out to be just about the best HIE I have ever stayed at! (and I'm a road warrior, 100+ nites/year in hotels).

This place had very spacious rooms, a well done Southwestern decor, wonderful breakfast buffet, and indoor pool...as I recall it was very affordable.

I'd definitely recommend the Green Gables play...the theatre is beautiful (totally unexpected to see that in a town the size of C'town!), and Cavendish Beach was a great day...(would you believe I was sunburned there....left New Jersey thinking....how hot can it possibly get up there and left sunscreen at home!....bad move!)

All in all, a very charming place, very nice countryside, very friendly people...I actually met a Cdn celebrity who lives on PEI at C'town Airport (Don somebody...sorry can't remember but he was signing autographs).

My only complaint (which is pretty trite) is that I remember thinking that I'd like to see more variety in the restaurants...a little less "church suppers" a little more on a shi-shi side, but then again, I'm sure that's the charm of PEI.

Have a great trip!

Yup, the CP(Prince Edward) is now the Delta. The Holiday Inn was redone in maybe 1997 and so far still looks ok(OK, its look fits as much as Sobeys did). The theatre complex actually includes the art gallery, theatre, resturant and the library. The reason it is so big is that Charlottetown was PEI's only city till 1995 when Summerside was made a city(it only has about 16k vs Charlottetown's 45+k), and with only one city, things are not spread around as much. Whats shi-shi? We only have church suppers open in the summers, when the tourists are concentrated in those area's. Our main resturants are chain and chinese, but we do have a tex-mex(pat and willys), italian(east side marios)african(out of africa) and mexican(mexico lindo)
