Looking for some insight into DCP roles...

I've managed to decide which roles I am and am not willing to accept, but now I'm having a hard time deciding which to choose as my top three. There were a few roles on which I wasn't able to find a whole lot of information- mainly Concierge, FSFB, and Vacation Planner. If anyone has had one of these roles, or knows enough from someone who has had one, I'd much appreciate it if you would answer a few questions I have.

For each role, I'd like to know:

1. What was the schedule generally like? What hours did you tend to work?
2. Was it easy or difficult to pickup or give away shifts?
3. What's you general opinion of the role? What are the good and bad aspects?

In addition, for the Vacation Planner role, what information I have managed to find has said that shifts were generally 6 hours in length, and I'm assuming that's usually 5 days a week...? So typically 30 hours a week total? If that's correct, for any current or previous Vacation Planners, was earning enough money each week to buy for rent, food, etc. a concern? I know that earning enough money can be an issue for pretty much any role, but seeing as Vacation Planners don't tend to be scheduled for long shifts (according to the information I found), I was just wondering if they tended to feel more of a financial strain than do those in other roles. Are there ways for Vacation Planners to pickup more hours and/or shifts?

One more question- I'm planning on attending a character performer audition, as Character Performer is my top role choice. My question is should I list it as my first choice when I apply and interview? The reason I'm questioning this is getting this role is completely dependent on the outcome of the audition. If they don't choose me, obviously I won't get the role, and if they do, I will. So it wouldn't really matter if I list it as my first choice or not, as getting the role isn't at all dependent on my preference for it, correct? This being the case, would it make more sense not to include Character Performer in my top 3, so that I could use all three spots in my top three list for other roles that may be influenced by my level of desire to be placed in them? Or would there be a good reason to list Character Performer in my top three?

Thanks in advance for any help, advice and insight you're able to provide! :goodvibes

Thanks, eadavis! Would you possibly be able to answer my other questions with regards to the Vacation Planner role?

Also, I'm still in need of information on Concierge and FSFB, if anyone is able to help me out with those, and I would also gladly welcome any other information about Vacation Planning, :)

Regardless of role, CP's are guaranteed at least 30-32 hours per week. When I was a CP, I was statused to the TTC. I usually had an 8 hour shift, granted I was there during the summer. Even on the busy nights, I never had a shift end after 8pm. You have some OT opportunities as well. You will automatically get cross trained to work parades if you are statused to TTC or DAK. From there you can also pick up PAC shifts. I never had a problem with expenses, granted, I also picked up a side job working nights at a bar at Downtown Disney.

Anyone out there have advice for this part of the question? I'm curious about that too.

Thanks again, eadavis! That was very helpful! I'm happy to hear that there are opportunities to pickup more hours should I get this role. How easy is it to give away shifts as a Vacation Planner?

At the TTC is was fairly easy, we had a bulletin board where people put their requests up, can also put up on hub. I know some locations have even started Facebook groups. It was also very easy to get an ER partway through the shift too.

Great! Thank you so much!

Still looking for information on FSFB and Concierge. Also, if anyone has any sort of advice or opinion to share on the character performer top three list matter, I'd really appreciate it!

Hi! I am also trying to pick my top roles and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about full service food and beverage? I know its basically being a hostess but I am wondering if it is pretty similar to regular fast food and beverage? Also what are roles that have the most avability? Thank you!

My old roommate was a waitress at Tony's. She worked mostly dinner shifts & enjoyed her job & made good tips....

If you do Full Service Food & Beverage as a CP, you will basically be a seater or a busser. You will not be serving, and you will not be tipped.

Quick Service F&B, you'll probably rotate between cashier, filler (assemble orders that come out from the kitchen and fill drinks), and busser.

1. What was the schedule generally like? What hours did you tend to work?
i just finished my CP in Florida doing QSFB, and i was scheduled anywhere from 10 and 50 hours a week. the weeks that i had 10 or less hours were weeks i gave shifts away or requested off, but in a normal week i worked about 35 hours.

2. Was it easy or difficult to pickup or give away shifts?
for me it was really easy because i worked in MK in 3 lands - liberty square, frontierland and adventureland. there were always people looking to pick up shifts because there were so many cast members in that area. a lot of them were seasonal as well so they needed the shifts to cover their hour requirements. towards the middle of my program i started giving away shifts a lot and would try to get rid of at least one a week, sometimes more. one week i worked 6 hours and gave the rest of my shifts away. it really just depends on where you're placed and how many cast members there are, and if theyre eligible to pick up your shifts (no overtime, no hour restrictions, stuff like that)

3. What's you general opinion of the role? What are the good and bad aspects?
all throughout my program i complained about what i was doing, but in a joking way. now that i'm home, i would go back tomorrow if i could and do the same thing over again. there were so many people, and so many CPs too, that i worked with that were really nice and on top of what they had to get done. there were a few that i didn't like, but overall i loved my locations and what i did.

you talked about rent and money... rent comes right out of your paycheck for WDW, i don't know about california though. i know where i worked, 13 hours paid rent with like a dollar leftover. so anything after your base rent hours you keep. there were a few food stores near the apartments in florida, one within walking distance. you just have to know how to stick to a budget. don't give away your shifts if you're looking to go home with money in your pockets. i didn't care that much about money because i wanted the whole experience, so i wasn't too worried, but some people do. it's definitely do-able, you just have to stick to it and know how to say no.
