Looking for some good eats in DC.

I really like Bangkok Bistro in Georgetown and Cactus Cantina--on Wisc. Ave.

Another vote for Old Ebbitt Grill!

Also, I like Capital City Brewing Company located near/at the Postal Museum.

The Italian bakery in Union Station (at the end, near the escalators) has the most incredible -- and HUGE -- eclairs. I brought back two on the plane for my mom & sis on this last visit.

And, for something different, the food court at the National Museum of the American Indian is pretty good. It's divided regionally and would make for a unique lunch experience.

DC is one of my favorite places to visit. Enjoy!!

Here's a DC themed dining blog. I don't live anywhere nearby now, but it's cool to read about the places.

BTW, his wife writes the world funniest blog. I played check out a favorite blogs links, found someone I thought was funny and she had a link to Amalah's.

We love Greek food so I did a search of Port of Piraeus and there are some wonderful reviews. I am adding this to my trip file as one to go to. Is it near the monuments or is it in another part of town?

It's not really near the monuments but it is fairly close to the Farragut West metro. The Kolonaki salad (if it is still there) is not to be missed!

There are several restaurants that I enjoy:

Mimi's American Bistro (Dupont Circle)---Singing waiters, great food, moderate to expensive

Old Ebbitt Grill (White House)---Very popular restaurant, steak & seafood specialties, moderate

Jaleo (Gallery Place/Chinatown)---Tapas restaurant, very good and reasonably priced

Zaytinya (Gallery Place/Chinatown)---Middle Eastern and Greek food served tapas style, attractive modern interior, popular and loud at times

Dupont Grille (Dupont Circle)---I enjoy their Sunday brunch

Anne Maria's (Dupont Circle)---Good Italian food at reasonable prices

Lauriol Plaza (Adams Morgan)--very popular Tex/Mex restaurant with terrific frozen drinks. Upstairs deck allows for al fresco dining

Tellme more about Mimi's--is it kid friendly, or a grownup type of place.

We LOVE Jaleo--trying to get hubby to take me there this summer, but not likely to happen. He thinks we spend too much money. :confused3

I LOVE the eatery in the Art Museum--cafeteria style (pricey for cafeteria style).

Unless they changed it as they have the other eateries...it was really really tasty.

How about the one with the jousting and medival times theme. Can't remember the name and I believe it's outside DC
I think that is Medieval times--hubby just priced a dinner for our family and it was $184 (I think it was more than $150).

For that price we are going to King's Dominion. :thumbsup2

In Alexandria there is a French bakery/eatery I think it may be Le Madeline's--but I could be wrong. HEAVENLY pastires.

Froggy Bottom at Washington Circle has a great lunch pizza buffet during the week for $5.95. Their regular menu is quite good, too.

For Arlington, my favorite place is El Paso Cafe on N. Pershing Dr. (just off of N. Glebe Rd.). Eden Center at Seven Corners has a GREAT selection of Vietnamese restaurants. Kabob Palace (Afghani food) in Crystal City is yummy as well, but be warned - some of their selections can be very spicy!

Washingtonian Magazine just did its 100 Very Best Cheap Eats. The list should be available online. Here's the link to last year's: http://www.washingtonian.com/dining/cheapeats/05.html

Cactus Cantina is great. It's owned by the same group that owns Lauriol Plaza and the menus are very similar.

Mimi's is suitable for kids, but most of the diners will be without kids. It's a popular place for group outings to celebrate special events. The past few times that I have been there, I saw a large group of medical students, a bachlorette party, and a few birthday parties. It's attached to a Marriott Hotel, so there are some out-of-towners. Patrons are a gay/straight mix.

My one complaint about the restaurant is that it can be loud at times, especially when the wait staff is performing (they sing into a microphone). Not a good place to go for a quiet conversation. The atmosphere, however, is fun and the staff is truly talented. They must audition for their jobs.

Mimi's is owned by the same man who owns Luna Cafe and Poets & Busboys.

Surprised no one has mentioned "Hard Times Cafe" in Alexandria. It's on King Street. They have really good chili and cornbread, and it's fairly reasonable price wise. They also make their own root beer, which my kids love.

It's a bit of a hike from the King Street metro station, but there's lots of local shopping around there. You can actually walk all the way down to the river, but that's probably 2 miles from the metro, and you have to walk back uphill.

If you are interested in going to Old Ebbitt Grill, reservations are a must.

Our absolute favorite D.C. restaurant is the Oceanaire. We also liked Ruth Chris' Steakhouse, McCormick and Schmidt and Sweet Georgia Brown's. A nice Italian restaurant is Maggiano's. I believe it is a chain but it is really good and the portions are huge. We used to take ds there every parents weekend. He had so many leftovers he could eat for a week!

many of my favorites have already been mentioned.

i'll throw a few more out there though:

teaism - not really a restaurant per se, but a great place to grab a snack and some tea and people watch. i love their salty oat cookies. http://www.teaism.com/

zola - pricey, but they have really good food and service. they also have a great lounge. it's attached to the spy museum.

someone already mentioned it, but i'll give another shout out to capital city brewing company - a great place to eat.

cosi is a good chain sandwich shop. their bread (made fresh) is awesome.

if you go to the luna grill make sure to get the sweet potato fries. yummy.

kramer books and afterwards is a great place to grab dinner - the price is right and the food is always good.

That's owned by a friend of mine! They've got a fabulous breakfast as well.

Save room for their S'mores platter or just go for dessert.

Wow, some great suggestions. I had been taking note, but now I think I will print the whole thread!

In Arlington, we are staying at the Radisson on Jefferson Davis Highway, not sure what it is near, but I am working on that.

Oooh, I definitely have a favorite DC eatery. It’s a really neat make your own stir-fry restaurant called Flat Top Grill. It is delicious! I sure wish they would open up a location in Atlanta. Here’s a link to their menu and how it works: http://www.flattopgrill.com/menu.htm. Best of all, it’s located at one of the Metro stations, so it’s easy to get to as a tourist (it’s the Ballston-MU stop on the orange line).

Wow, what a neat idea! This is even something my picky DS would like! Thanks.

Keep the list coming, I am loving all of your ideas.
