Do you have a favorite place to eat in DC? Casual? Fast food? Some place yummy? I would love to hear about it. We are head to DC for four days next month and I would love to hear what is good and not so good. Thanks!

There are several restaurants that I enjoy:

Mimi's American Bistro (Dupont Circle)---Singing waiters, great food, moderate to expensive

Old Ebbitt Grill (White House)---Very popular restaurant, steak & seafood specialties, moderate

Jaleo (Gallery Place/Chinatown)---Tapas restaurant, very good and reasonably priced

Zaytinya (Gallery Place/Chinatown)---Middle Eastern and Greek food served tapas style, attractive modern interior, popular and loud at times

Dupont Grille (Dupont Circle)---I enjoy their Sunday brunch

Anne Maria's (Dupont Circle)---Good Italian food at reasonable prices

Lauriol Plaza (Adams Morgan)--very popular Tex/Mex restaurant with terrific frozen drinks. Upstairs deck allows for al fresco dining

We liked Bucca di Beppo, mostly because of the location. You eat way up on the second floor patio with lots of action to watch below you, the food was pretty good too. :)

We also liked Luna Grill, and this one Chinese restaurant that Caity Caity recommended and I cannot remember the name fof it or the life of me.

Lot of help I am. :sad2:

If you get to Union Station, there is a deli in there that has the most incredible corned beef and pastrami sandwiches. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the suggestions! One question....what are tapas?

Tapas are Spanish in origin. They are small plates of cooked food, similar to appetizers only more filling. The idea is that people order several Tapas dishes to create a meal. The dishes can be shared or eaten by one. Tapas restaurants are growing in popularity in urban areas.

RUTH'S CHRIS STEAKHOUSE!!!!!!!! - Best dinner I've EVER had! :thumbsup2

We have one here where we live and I have heard that they are great, but I have also heard that they are WAY expensive. We are trying to stay away from anything very expensive for this trip as we are headed to Busch Gardens and then the beach after DC.

Thanks all. Keep the ideas coming, the more the better.

I found the address for you. It is on a busy intersection, but I don't know what other street it is. The outdoor patio dining at night is great for people watching (if you like that sort of thing!).

Check out the website for menus and pictures of some meals.

Buca di Beppo Washington, D.C.

I found the Chinese place too! It is www.citylightsofchina.com

Hope this helps!

Oodles Noodles (Asian) on 19th street or Port of Piraeus (Greek/Meditteranean) on 21st street between L and M. Both are really tasty and cheap!

Thanks for the websites, this really helps. Buca di Beppo looks like a winner for my family.

We love Greek food so I did a search of Port of Piraeus and there are some wonderful reviews. I am adding this to my trip file as one to go to. Is it near the monuments or is it in another part of town?

Even though I live outside of DC and work in DC, I never EAT in DC!!

But, I know a lot of people who do and Zatinya consistently gets rave reviews from everyone!

Thanks.

Since you are outside DC, do you know of any restaurants in the Arlington area?

I second the recommendation for Old Ebbitt Grill! Good food and lots of atmosphere and only a couple of blocks from the White House.

There is a great thai place in the "gayborhood." I'll find out from my boyfriend the name of it ( I know it's one word) and the location. I never had Thai til I ate there and I loved it!

I'll third Old Ebbitt Grill! Delish!

We also loved America in Union Station! :thumbsup2

Can you give me a specific area in Arlington?

I like to go to the Carlyle that is in Shirlington (which is part of Arlington, I believe).

Are you thinking of Thaiphoon near the corner of Connecticut and S in the Dupont Circle area? I love that restaurant. I had lunch there this afternoon and thought about mentioning it on this thread. The food is great and they have the best pina coladas.

If you want a casual food court kind of place, I recommend The Old Post Office Pavillion. It is only a few blocks from the Mall near the Smithsonian. And the tower is a National Park. It is the second tallest building in DC after the Washington Manument. You can go up in the tower free and I have never seen a line there. It is a cool place.

How about the one with the jousting and medival times theme. Can't remember the name and I believe it's outside DC
