We currently have a reservation for Mama Melrose's for dinner on the day we arrive at WDW in December. During our stay we're only planning to have that day at the Studio's, so I'm beginning to think we should do a counter service instead.

What is your recommendation for Counter/Quick Service in DHS?

Well *for us* 50's Prime Time is a must. It's an "attraction" all its own. I guess it depends what time you get in and how much you want to get done. With the backlot tour closed, we tend to skip the car stunt show... but to each their own...

I'm looking forward to trying Min & Bills pulled pork mac and cheese! They also have a melon salad on the menu that sounds delish. Fairfax Fare has a decent menu selection. I also like the selection from Trolley Car Cafe. Disclaimer: I've never eaten at any of these, but they sound good, lol!

We avoid CS at HS. And 50s PT is one of our must-dos, every trip! Love the fried chicken, pot roast, and meatloaf!!

I like the Backlot Express - the decor is great and I enjoy checking out the movie props. The sandwiches are tasty and my husband likes the burgers. The desserts are not good - just average CS stuff - and of course it is overpriced, like all Disney CS locations. But it is pretty fun! For dessert I like the Carrot Cake Cookie at The Writer's Stop. The ABC Commissary has some TV show memorabilia, so my kids like that. I remember when Lost was on and they had some scripts and small props from the show - my older daughters were over the moon! The ABC used to have a rice and beans dish that was good but I no longer see it on the menu.

But since we've been there several times, we are considering trying Mama Melrose this trip lol. That is, if we decide to get the dining plan and if they offer a discount/free dining. We've eaten at the Prime Time, Sci-Fi and Hollywood and Vine and don't want to pay $$ for the Brown Derby, so it is the only one left to try!

DHS has a pretty solid table service restaurant assortment, so given the fact that the park has closed down some attractions that might otherwise get your attention, I would guess that you might have more time than you think if you're planning to spend a whole day there. (I love that park and could easily spend a full day there, even in its current condition, but my wife hates it.) In full disclosure, Mama Melrose is the one TS we haven't tried, but it seems to get pretty decent reviews. We very much enjoy Prime Time, Sci-Fi and Brown Derby, which is probably one of the best restaurants on property.

We like the TS restaurant choices in Hollywood Studios. We love Brown Derby, Mama Melrose, Sci-Fi, and even enjoy our character meals at Hollywood & Vine. We don't care for 50s but its just not our style. I'm not wild about the CS options in the Studios. Pizza Planet is bearable but forgettable.

Are you planning toattend Fantasmic that night? If so, I woul keep MAma MElrose, but book the Fantasmic Dining package.

We like MM and try to book an ADR every time we go to Disney. The QS restaurants are okay, but if you have teh ime, I woudl choose TS in DHD over any one of hem.

We try to NOT do CS at DHS. It is sorely lacking and there are several good TS locations we have to choose from. While I know they have changed/improved some menus one of my biggest gripes is lack of indoor aka air conditioning.

Yeah - I think we're leaning towards keeping the Mama Melrose reservation. Essentially all of the CS options rate really low.... with the exception of the Brown Derby Bar, of course.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. :)

We really liked 50s Prime Time on our last trip. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun!
