Looking for place to stay.....

.....while in Orlando in late August.

We are a family of four, two boys ages 14 & 12, and are planning on staying in Orlando for about a week. Any recommendations as to a good place to stay? I'm thinking vacation home probably (more room) over hotel though I'm open to both if the price is right. And we def need a pool!!

We will not be doing Disney this trip but rather want to do Universal and other Orlando places.

Any thoughts?

Hi There is a Staybridge Suites on International Drive. I have stayed there a few times and stayed in a two bedroom one bath, a two bedroom two bathroom and a one bedroom one bath. For your family, the one bedroom might work, they have re done since I was there but the bedroom had two beds and the living room had a pull out couch. We loved having the kitchen and the free breakfast buffet is one of the best ANYWHERE. There is a Trolley stop right in front of the hotel, that we took to Wet and wild and shopping, it would be a taxi ride to Universal, or if u rent a car parking is free. The pool is nice and the hot tub is wonderful after a day in the park anf if you are a drinker they had a happy hour. I can not say enough great things about this hotel

I was looking around and came across Windsor Hills Resort & they look really nice....are they anywhere close to Universal or too far away? Has anyone stayed there to tour Orlando but not Disney? Thoughts?

Windsor Hills is convenient to WDW, not so convenient to Universal. If your focus this vacation was Universal I'd look for something closer, no further west along I-4 than Lake Buena Vista. If you look on the map I pasted in that would be the 2nd I4 shield from Universal. That still leaves you with a lot of really nice choices from vacation homes and timeshare resorts that you can rent from the owners.
