Hi! We are a family of 5 (DH, me, DD18, DS15 and DS5) and are going to Universal for the first time next summer. We will be staying on property at RPH in a kid suite. I am now trying to figure out if the meal deal would be worth it for us.

Has anyone done this? Was it convenient? Was it worth it in your mind? We are AAA members and I think we would get a discount at the restaurants and counter services inside. Also, if you get a sipper mug, how does the meal deal impact that?

Thanks for all the help! I haven't been to Universal in over 10 years, so its like starting from scratch!

I have read alot that they are not really worth it unless your family is going to eat alot during your time at the park and very limited to where and what you can eat.
also some places they say you can eat aren't very good and when we were there in june I found it was just as cheap to eat without the meal deal passes plus you have aaa and they offer 10% discount on food and the only places I heard you can't use aaa is the hotel restaurants.
Hope this helps and have a great time when ya go.:woohoo:

We got the 2-park meal deal for our teens last summer as they were going to be at the parks all day while Mom & Dad had some private time planned.

First, most places weren't open until 11:00 am and then it was mostly burgers & pizza. They managed to get 3 meals in as the parks were open until 9:00 pm. I supposed I saved a few bucks but unless you're there for a late close in the summer, you would be hard to get your $ worth.

Had done it once and would never do it again. The menu items are very limited and as far as the kids plates go they were even bigger waste of money. There is no way you would get your money worth in a day.

First, I am not a fan of the meal deal and have posted many times about what I see as it's weaknesses. However, in your group, you do have the ideal target audience - your teenage son. You may want to consider buying the meal deal for him, and any others in your party that will eat lots and often during the day. The one (and possibly only one) advantage that Universal's meal deal has over WDW's dining plan is that not everyone has to have it.
