Hello everyone! I finally decided to make an account after hearing a lot about DisBoards for awhile since I figured everyone here is perfect for what I'll ask. I also assumed I would drop this in the Photography board since it is a photo project I worked on.

I did a project in the Magic Kingdom of a stop-motion movie of traveling around the park. If anyone is interested in checking it out I would really love the feedback to see how you think it panned out. I'm considering doing the other parks if I hear good things as well. Thanks a lot for your time and I hope you enjoy!

I'll leave the link to YouTube here and it's called Stop-Motion Magic Kingdom.

Nice! All the photography looks great and has a good steady flow.

To me, the choice in music could be improved. I personally love Disney music, and would recommend sticking with Disney, but many of the songs you used were too slow in tempo relative to the quick cut and high energy feel of this kind of stop-motion. Also, the song at the end felt like a moment of climax, not a feeling of resolution, which would be more appropriate in my opinion.

Keep it up! :D

Oh I actually 100% agree on the choice of music haha I honestly decided on that one since it's the exact length of the piece. The music isn't three songs but a one song medley from the Peter Pan soundtrack. (Since I'd rather want to use as close to one whole track that splice in multiple songs if possible)

This was my first large scale stop-motion movie so I wasn't sure how long all the photos would take at a 5fps rate so I left the length of the video determine the music I'd choose. Now I feel like I have a bit of a better grasp on how long a number of photos can last so next time should be better.

Thanks for the feedback! Very helpful!

Right on! Cross fading different music/songs together is super easy, so you'll be good to go with that.

Also, I'm glad to hear you went through with this cool project without knowing the outcome for sure. I know a lot of people that have great ideas, but don't actually do them because they are not sure if it will work, so definitely props to you for making it happen! :thumbsup2

Thank you very much! A friend of mine is visiting soon so I think I'll do one in DHS one with a main subject as well. I'll keep my home park to myself though for an updated version of the 1st person style I think haha Especially when I get my hands on my 35mm fixed lens.

I don't know about all that fancy stuff you guys are talking about now.I think it's pretty cool just the way it is :thumbsup2

Yeah... What he said, LOL!
I liked it, even the music and especially when you introduced yourself (or really part of yourself) into the shots like when you hand waved at the characters or opened the park map.

Keep up the good work, have FUN and keep sharing!!

Thanks for sharing, Lecard. I think the idea was really cool, and it was very fun to watch it unfold.

Just by way of offering some technical suggestions, I'll just say that the nature of the technique is such that at the end of the day, it's going to be "choppy". Personally, I found the quick transitions very disorienting when watching on a large screen... it even gave me a bit of a headache. Three ways I can think of to soften this would be: (1) slow down the scenes, with more time on each frame, (2) add a soft transition (I'd be curious to see how a 1/3rd second glow works), and finally, (3) I'd render the video to a non-linear editor (I love Sony Vegas myself) and run a "stabilizer" on it, to help minimize the shake.

Honestly, I think the end product was really interesting. I may have to try a short clip like this on our trip next week. Thanks again for sharing and I look forward to whatever else you come up with.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! Also thanks for the tips JC. I wanted to see this one through to the end from what I sent out seeing. I agree it could have benefited from being slower but I pretty much had too much footage which ended up being the problem haha It would have been a 6-7 minute video at 3 to 4 fps and that was too long to me.

So my next plan is to either shoot less in general or set up several small sessions. When it comes to the choppiness I sort of was going for that but I do agree that it can definitely benefit from a use of a tripod as well. I just was aiming for "What I see while I walk" for this one (which probably wasn't the greatest plan but I wanted to see it though haha)

Thanks again for all the tips! I'll let everyone know when I get another one done!

Can't wait to see the next one.

I shared your link with a videographer friend of mine and he now wants to take a Contour HD camera he has that he can wear on a headband or brim of a hat, and he's going to record his entry into the park the next time he goes. He seems to think he can stabilize the whole video and then extract individual frames and that will get the same effect while smoothing it out a bit.

You must have had a great idea since everyone wants to copy the style now :)

Haha Well it's nice to inspire some people! I think I'm going to try a monopod actually. It will be easier to move from spot to spot and I'll get every photo at the exact same height at least for sure so that should help it stabilize a bit at least. It will take more time but I'll probably try it on a smaller scale first and see how it goes.

Great Video! :thumbsup2 My boyfriend and I were planning on doing a stop motion video on our next trip to disney of our day because we made one over the winter playing in the snow and it was so much fun and it's just a little something different than normally video taping it. I guess maybe its a photographer thing but I prefer the stills (& stop motion videos) haha :lmao:

I agree with you 100%! It's a lot more fun to make also!
