looking for O'Hana reviews

My experience last Nov was not good. I was there right at opening. I had great service and even a window seat. I could see the beginning of the MVMCP lights on the castle. Both pluses. However, the food was not good. Much of it was cold . . . strange at restaurant opening time. Very little flavour. What flavour there was . . . was a weak teriyaki taste. For everything. I had read earlier reviews and knew to ask for the salad as it was no longer being served automatically. It was OK. But not good. The lettuce wraps were not tasty. The shrimp were OK but not great. The beef was mostly a miss. One batch was raw rare. The second batch over cooked and gristle. The entertainment was just coconut races for the children & an MC shouting welcome. Perhaps this was due to my early seating time. Its now a once and done for me. I much, much preferred my dinner a few nights earlier at the Kona Cafe. Head and shoulders much better food. I expect you will have some glowing reviews posted. And some flaming reviews posted. This seems to be the new norm for the place. The bottom line is that it is an inconsistent experience. If you go, I hope you are lucky and have a better dinner.

We had very good experiences in Oct 2014 and Jan 2015. We had a later seating in Oct (around 8 pm) and we waited a REALLY long time for our table, but the food when we finally were seated (at a window table!) was great. Everything was fresh, hot, and came out quickly. In Jan we had a much earlier seating-- around 6:45-- and we were seated quickly, also at a window table. Food and service were fantastic, and we again watched Wishes from our table. My husband, who can leave most Disney dining, has made this his only request for all future Disney trips. Currently stalking for an early ADR for our Oct trip!

Our dinner there last month was delicious.
The lettuce wraps were not there and we did have chicken skewers. The shrimp were even better than I remembered. We really really enjoyed it and had great service.
We have another reservation for October.

Ohana seems to be all over the place with reviews. Back in Dec I enjoyed it my DH did not and won't go back. What one likes the other may hate.

We ate there last week Saturday. It was our best meal of the trip. The wait (we got there very early) was very short about 10 minutes or so. Everything was delicious. We received a salad, no lettuce wraps. And we did get chicken skewers also. Everyone was very nice and we had good service throughout the meal. DH has declared that we must make Ohana a Disney first day tradition.

I've dined at 'Ohana 3 times. The first time I wasn't thrilled, but I think it's because I had built it up in my mind. Plus we were seated near the entertainer (a very loud woman) and I was tired after a long day. The next two times we loved it! I'm not a huge meat eater or a bread pudding fan, but the bread, salad, noodles/pot stickers were all amazing.

We had a 530 ADR at Ohana this past March. Took about 15 mins to be seated. The waiter was great and food was excellent. Wings and pot stickers were brought out right away and everything that followed was served hot and fresh. One of our favorite meals!

Thank you for your response. ! I suppose we'll just take our chances and keep our reservation. I read just as many good reviews as bad ones. There are 4 of us and my son's 10th birthday is 2 days before we eat there. I hate to pay adult price dinner for him (along with all of us) for an hour wait, cold food and bad service. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a great $200 experience. :scared:

We ate there on May 8th and LOVED it. The first course was salad. Second was the wings and pot stickers. Then, noodles and vegetables. We really liked the chicken just by itself. The steak was good but we both felt it needed the dipping sauce they provided to bring out more flavor. The shrimp wasn't bad, but it wasn't anyone's favorite. Then, the bread pudding which was wonderful enough that I looked up a copycat recipe to make it for my DH on Father's Day. They brought DD4 a chocolate cupcake with frosting and M&Ms. Our reservation was at 5:25 and we didn't wait at all for our table. My only complaint is that we were seated right beside where they line the kids up for every activity so it got a little close while we were trying to eat. Didn't take away from the meal, just a bit awkward. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Hi - According to the Disneyparks Moms panel "Disney considers the age you were at check-in to be your age for the whole trip. If your son is two when you check-in, he will be entitled not only to free theme park admission, but also free dining in some cases." I believe this rule also applies to meals, so if you check in when you child is 9 (a child) they should still be a child for dining purposes during that trip.

I love 'Ohana, I eat there on almost every trip! I love the chicken and steak, I don't eat the shrimp because I don't feel like peeling it, but my DH does and he enjoys it. The wings and the noodles are my favorite. Oh, and the bread pudding dessert is my favorite dessert in all of Disney! The worst thing about 'Ohana is the annoying female singer who walks around the whole time, she's obnoxious. We finally saw the male this past trip and he is so much better! But I could honestly do without the entertainment all together!

Oh wow! you just saved me some money! I checked my reservation and my disney travel agent booked my son as an adult, even though his birthday isn't until the day after check in! She's changing it now. I just assumed it was correct because his birthday was while we are there. Yay! Thank you for the info! :tiptoe:

Hi - Glad to help. This just happened to be something we have gone through before (our children are now in college). Enjoy 'Ohana!
