hi all. i'm looking for an offsite mexican place for dinner for cinco de mayo next saturday night. does anyone have suggestions? two 10yrs and two adults. doesn't have to be authentic but would like a fun place.

Here are some of my other choices so far that we may try during our stay.

Cafe Tutu Tango
Bahama Breeze
Beef O'Brady (thanks to a thread on the dis)

thanks. jade

Each time we are in the Disney area, we stop at Chevy's which is in the parking lot of that shopping center on the east end of the Downtown Disney hotels (can't remember the name but there is an Albertson's grocery at the center) Great chips and cheese dip, good food and fun atmosphere. First time we stopped there, we thought it would be like Nascar Cafe but were delighted it was Mexican.

I agree Chevy's is great--"fresh Mex," everything is made with fresh ingredients. The shopping center is "Crossroads," also home to the McDonalds and TGI Fridays. I have a feeling it will be packed next Saturday.

I second Chevy's as well, we have one here in Miami and I will drive 20 minutes out of my way just to eat there.

Now... IMHO I don't like Bahama Breeze. You can get more authentic caribbean food that also costs waaaay less at small mom & pops places in Orlando, especially because of the large latin (puerto Rican and Cuban) population.

thanks so much you guys. that place will be perfect. i just got off the phone with them. next saturday they are having a cinco de mayo party with the parking lot roped off, live music and dancing. thank you so much.

You're welcome. I recommend the chicken flautas app and any quesadilla. Also, if you like yummy margaritas you HAVE to have a prickly pear one!! It's so good.

girli, thanks so much for the recommendations. i wrote them down on my list and i will definately have a prickly pear margarita in honor of our cat Baloo!

FYI--We don't have a large Cuban population here. We've got large Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Mexican populations.

Anne, you are exactly right: we have a HUGE Puerto Rican population here.

Tijuana Flats is also doing something for Cinco de Mayo, but I don't know what. They have one in Winter Garden that's a pretty family oriented place. We (as 2 adults) prefer the one in Metro West.

Cheers!

I have to add we all love Chevys.

The salsa is the bomb with all that cilantro and the ranch dressing I even have the recipe and make it at home.

Another vote for Tijuana Flats YUMMMMMM!!!!!!

Anne

Isla Bonita,

Would you be willing to share the recipe with us? I tried one I found online, but it didn't turn out well. Thanks!

cruisincarrie here goes

I double this always!!!!!

Ranch Dressing
1 cup butter milk
1 tblsp fresh lime
1 tblsp minced cilantro
1 tsp fresh oregano
1 tblsp finely diced yellow onion
2 tsp monced garlic
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 cups cold mayo

I use a rubber maid quart jug and it works great. All who have tried it love it. Let me know what you think.

Chevy's is my favorite, simply because of the sweet corn tomalito, but Tijuana Flats runs a close second. Tijuana seems more casual to me than Chevy's, but the food at both is great. Another good one is Chipotle Mexican Grill. I would take food from any of them right now!

My boytoy and I discovered Chipotle on our way home from a trip to Tampa! That place is awesome. They are actually building one 2 blocks from my house in Miami.
