Looking for new auto insurance/Credit Score

Wow, I'm glad I found this topic.

My aunt talked with Hartford, her carrier, and they said her annual premiums would almost double from 600 a year to 1100 if she moves to Florida.

Is it true if you move across state lines that a new policy has to be written?? Cause she gets a good driver discount for being with them for so long. But they said once she moved, and a new policy written, it would be like her becoming a new member all over again.

She's probably been driving for over 40 years now, drives a honda accord 2000, and the last incident she's had was sometime in 00 or 01 with a small fender bender.
1100 seems a bit much, as Kari has 2 vehicles listed, one with full coverage, and the other partial. An 01 ranger and a 95 villager cost a little over 1300 a year. She's only 26 with like 8 years or so of driving.

We have comparable cars and you only pay $1068 per year? Are you sure that's per year and not every six months? Even before DH ticket we were paying $1500 more per year than you for practically the same cars. If that's the case, I'm going to be really mad. I'm definitely going to check in to other carriers.

I looked over each years renewals and we've paid more with each renewal as the cars get older...WT*&%

It's sickening.

That person is in Ohio; I've always heard that rates are MUCH lower in Ohio than Michigan, but can't at the moment remember the why.

Your before-ticket rates are similar to what we currently pay (but we're up for renewal here soon so who knows what we'll pay next year).

yes its true! florida is one of the worse priced insurance states.
alot of the east coast is.. nc is high. sc is high. fl is high.
al is high. most of the east coast and the gulf state are.
hurricanes! remember hurricane strikes, if the car is damaged the auto insurance pays out.
its just like a house. if hurricne hits. homeowners pays. if its a big storm they wind up paying alot.
so the risk changes... everyones rates increase reguardless if you made a claim or not.

some people try to move and not change insurance.. bad idea.
each state had different laws. i believe that florida is a no fault state.also
if u live in florida with a virginia policy. the insurance company CAN deny the claim. or even pay it out and then DROP that person.

You cannot compare what one person pays in one state to what another pays in a different one. There are different laws in each state and some states are just more risk than others. When I see commercials saying you'll save $540 a year if you switch to xyz company, well, I don't even pay that a year, how can I save that much? And yes, if you move to another state it has to be rewritten, even if you just move 20 miles and cross a border. Different states, different laws. Don't compare what other people pay to what you pay, just get quotes for yourself with different companies. I hope you save some money!

Hi everyone. It has been many years since we've looked around at different auto insurance carriers. We got our annual renewal in the mail yesterday and it went up $226.00. My DH got a speeding ticket last September and it was listed on on the renewal. My questions are, is this a reasonable amount? He did get two points for the ticket. Also, if I were to look around to see what others are offering for premiums, will my credit score be affected? I know they will ask for my SSN, so I assume they will run a credit report. If I asked five insurance carriers for a quote, will that be five inquiries on my credit report, lowering it five different times?

Also, I'd like to know if I'm even in the ballpark of being treated fairly with respect to auto insurance premiums. My renewal is $2814.00. We have an 2005 SUV $974.00, an 2009 Chrysler $1,084.00, and a motorhome $756.00. The motorhome premiums didn't go up at all. We have $500,000/$500,000 liability and broadened deduct. $250/$500. We get all the discounts like homeowner, multi-line, anti-theft, low mileage, etc. Only DH and I for the policy.

I realize there are many variables in play, but am wondering if these prices are among the averages for full coverage. My neighbor told me he pays $800.00 a year for his 2007 SUV, so I'm feeling a little ripped off if you know what I mean. If GMAC (my current carrier) is in the ballpark, I wont bother looking around. I'd love to look, but don't want to lower my credit.

One last question is, and I'm hoping there is an insurance person among us. Is my $500,000/$500,000 Bodily injury and property damage coverage too high? We used to lease cars and that limit was the requirement back then. Should that be lowered to 100/300, or 250/500, etc. What does everyone else have...maybe I'm over-insured. Also, we do have an umbrella policy too...should that make a difference in lowering auto limits.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Forgot to mention, we have 25+ years driving experience each...not going to actually give my age...lol

Since your neighbor pays $800 for a 2007 and you have a 2005, 2009 and a speeding ticket it would seem your pay the right amount.

I would check with Geico. We had Progressive and I had an accident. They barley gave me enough money to get my truck fixed. Plus they were here for 5 hours trying to find the cheapest parts for my truck. Then my cost went up on my policy.

I switched to Geico and it was lowered. I had another accident and they were here for 30 minutes or so and got enough money to cover everything plus some money left over. My cost did go up a little but not as much as Progressive.

So far I have been pleased.
