Long time WDW vet planning a trip out west :goodvibes

I just found out that my sister-in-law is getting married in San Diego. Since I've never been to California, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to see DL. We are going to fly in 7/29 and really only want to spend 2 days in the parks.

How busy are the parks in July/ August? How are the temperatures? We are also just going to use Hilton points and stay there. Does anyone know how far the Hilton is from the parks?

Thanks so much!

This summer is also looking to be real busy too, what with Carsland opening and the new entrance to California Adventure.

Weather can be quite warm, but alot more manageable then the summers on the east coast.

Thanks for your speedy response. We figured that we aren't going to be able to see it all. Maybe just the highlights.

we usually go every year around july/august and it's pretty crowded. this last july we stayed 6 days and half were warm and the other half were HOT! but cooled off considerably at night.

FWIW, many would suggest staying farther away at the Hilton has significant drawbacks. Study up so you make the right decision for you.

Summer is my favorite time to visit DLR. You have to do it right though to get the most from it. See "Getting The Most Out of a Summer Visit To DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1345319

Are you asking about this Hilton? It's quite close.

It's a walk not an easy walk and you will likely be using a shuttle to the park. One big DLR advantage over WDW is there is a lot of places to stay that allow easy walking to the park.

Thanks so much everyone. Is summer in CA hotter than in Florida? We were at Disney this past June and it was miserable hot. Upper 90s everyday and terribly humid.

Unfortunately, this will not be a "Disney only" trip like we typically take in FL. There are going to be many things we want to see and do, so it's more likely that we'll do just Disneyland for a day. I don't see us wanting to pay for a hotel closer when we can stay at the Hilton for free, so I suppose we'll have to deal with whatever drawbacks come with it. The website says its only a block away. Is it more than a 10 or 15 minute walk?

I'm not saying you have to go to DL for 5 days or anything, since I understand you want to see other attractions, but one day at Disneyland during the peak of summer is woefully short. I'd at least consider a two day park-hopper. Three is my magic number of days.

As far as if it is hotter, in my opinion no. Certainly we can get some hot days, but the 90's is only for a few weeks out of the year (it at all), and the humidity is nowhere close to Florida, so it doesn't feel as awful as 90 in Orlando.

It's a 20+ minute walk, it's on the block next to DLR but the gates are far away. Seriously like I said before you could walk but will find it a mistake and should take the shuttles.

Very true, WDW can be miserable, DL can feel awesome and if the sun is hot shade easily relieves it. You should look at the charts in the link below. DLR is nicer than WDW about 330 days of the year. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23004158

You should really read this thread^^^. It covers, weather, hotels, and how much time you need.

There is so much to see and do that you can't in WDW you may end of dissapointed if you only give yourself a day.

Read all of HG's links.

WDW is a sauna.....it feels much hotter at WDW than at DLR.

Unless you have a good plan & are at Security on a Wed. at 7:15am.....I wouldn't do DLR......you're setting yourself up for disappointment going for only one day.

Art Bus or a 20 min. walk. Either way it will be tough to make it at 7:15am OR take a mid day break. If it was me.....I'd save the Hilton points & stay at the CCI or Hojo if you're trying to save a few bucks & not stay on site.

It's a LOOONG block.

Read HGs tip threads & have a plan. It's Walt's park, NOT WDW. Know FP, get there early & have a plan. And did i mention to get there early? ;)

EDIT - LOOKS LIKE SKI & I HAD SIMILAR THOUGHTS & WERE POSTING AT THE SAME TIME.

:)

Hmmmm. . . Looks like we should get there early? LOL. Alright! I have 9 months to come up with a plan and to talk my DH into two days at the park. After our trip to WDW in June, my hubby swore there would be "no more Disney" for several years. He doesn't feel the love like the boys and I do.

I've always wanted to experience DL because, at least I would think, Walt's Magic would be oozing out of everything. As much as I'd love to make an entire week of it, take in every second, that won't happen this trip.
