We are seriously considering buying and since we don't have to vacation at peak times, I don't think having the 11 month window matters to us. So...it might be best for us to buy at the resort that has the least expensive yearly fee. Or maybe not...maybe buying SS would be the best bet seeing as they're giving the rebate.

Also...my understanding is BCV is sold out...are any other resorts sold out?

Any thoughts? (We're thinking 200.00 points and financing through Disney).

Thanks,
Pam

p.s.
We will be vacationing at HH and BCV on alternating years.

Well,

I think OKW has th lowest dues. Don't quote me.

SSR's dues are actually pretty low. 3.80 per point, I think.

BCV are 3.97, I think. VWL is 4.05 and BWV are 4.10.

I may be off a cent or two on some. I do not know what HH's dues are.

I notice you say you will be staying at BCV/HH alternating years. Depending on the time you go, you may indeed need the 11 month window.

I don't know if there are any BCV pts left to purchase but if you plan on staying there in October, November, early December or any of the busy times then that is where you should buy your pts.

Do you mean that you will stay at SSR one year and then BCV the following year?

Maybe you could see if there are any BCV pts left and then do 150 there and 50 or 100 at SSR.

I'm thinking buy SSR because of the 10.00/point incentive, but we won't be staying there. We'd be staying at HH one year and BCV the next, most likely the end of September. I was able to book BCV (via renting points from a DVC member) at the 7 month window for August, so I'm thinking (hoping) that I'd be able to book at the 7 month window for the end of September.

Is HH sold out? If not, that may be my best bet because we'd vacation there every other year and would be more apt to vaca in the summer if we could, so the 11 month window may be better. But, it's still hot in September, so that would be fine, too.

It's such a huge decision!!!!! And, because I research EVERYTHING to death, it's even more so!

We most likely will NOT buy resale, only because from what I've read it's not THAT much of a saving considering you have to pay closing costs and it's more of a hassle if you're financing yourself. I would rather NOT put it on our home equity line, only because I want to keep that open for other things.

I'd love to hear everyone's opinions/suggestions!

Pam

HH is very difficult to get for summer at the 7 month window or so I've heard.

Maybe other have more experience with that.

If you won't be staying at SSR I would call ASAP and see if there are BCV pts available. Why? Because that is where you want to stay and that pts are a little bit cheaper.

Everyone always says buy where you want to stay.

BCV pts are going so fast that I would place the call today. They have been in sell out status for some time now but you never know what they may be able to offer you.

I thought that points costs the same no matter where you bought! Can anyone direct me to where I can see how much points for each place cost?

Anyone else with info regarding which resorts may be sold out?

Sorry for all the questions - there is SO much to consider when buying!!!

Thanks,
Pam

The SSR pts are $89.00 with a contract until 2054.

All of the other resorts, if there are any pts left, are $84 with a contract until 2042.

Resorts can be sold out but someone may buy in and then cancel and then those pts become available again. That is what happened with my BCV add on.

If you are at all serious about BCV I would call someone today and ask if there are still pts left to buy for new contracts, what use year they are and if you can use Magical Beginnings with your purchase-if you want to.

I would think the price for SSR pts may go up this year but who knows since it is not open yet.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. I asked a million before we bought in.

I agree with those who have suggested calling about BCV points ASAP. That is a very good starting point. If they don't have points you may want to have them put your name down on the waiting list.

Then, you can continue your search, asking questions, etc. There is nothing that says you can't change your mind before you actually sign the papers.

Based on what I continually read about buying where you most want to stay I would carefully consider the particular issue. There are many on these boards who hold very strong views about buying where you most want to stay because of the advantage you get by being able to book your stay 11 months out.

I wish you well in making your decision.

What if you call and they have 150 at BCV or you call and they have 100?

You can always buy a master of 150 at SSR-the minimum and scoop up those 100 for BCV.

Let us know if you call today.

I'm at work right now (gee, you wouldn't know it by all the posting I've been doing!!!) so I couldn't call until tonight. Who do I call? And, are they only there during regular working hours?

Pam

I believe you would call 1-800-800-9100 Option 1 and ask to be put in touch with a guide.

There are guides that work until 9pm so there is a chance that someone will be able to help you.

I also sent you a private message.

I was only on the waitlist for add on BCV pts for one day-I couldn't believe it.

Your guide will probably know what use year is more likely to come through quickly with BCV pts if that is what you desire.

Good luck with all your research and ask any questions you might have. Everyone here is really nice and willing to share the good and the bad.

:D :D

I spoke to a guide last night (thanks floridafam) and it sounds like SSR is the best choice for us. Now to convince my husband! He does want to buy, but he is not a planner so thinking about next year's vacation, let alone the next 40 years of vacations, is not something he can do now! (He is NOT a multi-tasker!)

Pam

ACtually, with SSR, you will have 50 years of vacations to plan!;)

The resale is the way to go. The Disney magical beginnings doesn't do you much good. If you need the up front price reduction, rent out this years points and next years points for $10 a point using the Rent/Trade Board. This gives a double magical beginning. Next year when you want to use the points, you can borrow from the coming year. If you are really lucky, you can buy a resale with banked point available now along with current points. Check the listing on this board. That is where I found my deal. I rented 150, used 150 and rented out next years 150.

Many resales have banked points available that make them a steal.

Look around.

If you want BCV and HH in the summer, I'd try to get points there. With 75,000 members and growing, that 11 month window is going to be important. Unless you can live with not getting those two resorts for vacations, I'd really think about this.

When we first started thinking about joining, we thought about OKW because of having cheap dues, but I am so glad we didn't do that. Our favorite Disney hotels are WL and Yacht/Beach. I am so glad we bought where we love it the most. Peace of mind. If I were you, I'd call and ask about BCV (I think you might get lucky) and maybe then get on a wait list with Disney for HH points. Maybe buy 150 at BCV and a small add-on contract at HH. One thing to keep in mind, there are more 2 bedrooms at Hilton Head than studios or one bedrooms. If you were real flexible with dates maybe a two bedroom at Hilton Head at the 7-month window would be easier than the other two.

Good luck and hope you get lots of Pixie Dust!
