Looking for info on Wine Tasting..

I am going on the 11/29 Eastern and was wondering about the wine tasting. I've never done it before.. is it worth it? What's it like?

Hi Shelley!

I did it--it was interesting and a lot of fun. A great way to sample about eight of the wines they offer onboard so to make an informed choice with dinner!

The end is the best though--they show you how to open a bottle of champagne with a glass, never touching the cork!

For the cost ($11 or 12 I think) it was well worth it and an enjoyable couple of hours.

DH and I did it on our first cruise back in '01. I am not a wine drinker (don't really like the taste and just don't "get it") so I thought it might help me understand. I still don't get it but it wasn't for my lack of trying. DH really enjoyed it - but he drank his samples and most of mine. It was an enjoyable time - I understand more about wine now but I still don't like the taste (don't think I will ever aquire it). We got a pin too if you are a collector.

I finally went to wine tasting on my second attempt this summer! Thx to this board I realized this was something I might like to try. I do enjoy wine and know very little about it. Needless to say, the DCL program was well-run and very informative. I highly recommend it but I would suggest that you reserve early just in case it is sold out as it was on my first sea day last summer.

I did the Wine Tasting on the Magic in March 2002.

It was an excellent wine tasting for wine novices. There was a Riesling, a Pinot Grigio, a Merlot, a Shiraz, a sparkling wine, and something from the Fess Parker Winery. For someone who has never compared such widely different wines side-by-side, it's a great opportunity.

The sommeliers were entertaining. And it was a good opportunity to try some of the wines on the ship's wine list.

But someone expecting a more advanced wine tasting — such as the ones at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival — may be disappointed.

My husband and I signed up for the wine tasting on our Wonder cruise back in August. I was a little nervous because it was our first wine tasting and I didn't want to be intimidated. Luckily we were in a really good group with a good mix of people, experienced and non-so-experienced. I was able to walk away with a good understanding of what I like and don't like plus I'm more comfortable knowing what to order. It's a great time...not to be missed!

Each time it is a different mix of wines, this next cruise I may go twice. We are fairly experienced wine drinkers but I love trying new ones that I otherwise may not give a second thought to. It is in my opinion one of the best bargins on the ship!

This is definitely something I'm looking forward too next year when we take our cruise.
For the novices out there that are a little hesitant, after trying several from various sellers here at home and a few trips to Napa Valley and Sonoma, I've come to the decision that it's all in the taste and what taste you like. So give it a try and see what happens.

I am not a wine drinker, but I went to the wine tasting w friends and enjoyed the experience and learning new things. I Felt I got my $12.00 worth.

You may also want to try the "chef" series - held in the AM on sea days- in Studio Sea. In addition to watching a master chef create a dish (dessert, entree, etc). you have the opportunity to tase the food w a glass of wine. They also have a wine appreciation immediately following the cooking demo - an opportunity - at not cost - to see if you might want to attend the more formal wine tasting.

After the 3rd class, we had the opportunity to tour the galley. I highly reccommend this experience.
