I'm going to disney in March :cloud9: --count down has started-March 10-15--staying at Pop. I have booked myself a full itinerary-but last day I was thinking of visiting
OKW resort. Yes I've decided it's going to be my home resort sooner or later--well hopefully sooner. Anyhow how do I arrange to just look around --I'm not interested in the DVC presentation of SSRS,,beautiful but not my cup of tea right now. You guys have so much knowledge and info it great.

I would suggest taking the boat from DTD to OKW, then just expore to your hearts content. It's a great resort, you'll have no problem finding anything your looking for. Enjoy:goodvibes

Thanks --I don't want to be viewed as a strange person lurking around the resort--should I check in with anyone or just explore?

On this last trip in Sept. we stayed at HGVC and I just had to visit our home, OKW. I just drove up, and told the guard I wanted to look around. I wanted to check out some of the areas we had never stayed in, they just waved me through. The other thing you could do is eat at Olivia's and then look all around.

Check at HH they may even show you a rm.

H.H.
I'm assuming H.H is Hospitality House? lol my kids would laugh at me over this, lol
I'm a special needs teaching assistant but computers??? lets just say I'm learning . Could someone post the best resale month for me to buy if I intend use during March --July --Aug .

We bought at SSR, but I can't say enough about OKW. We have stayed there over the years and it's just simply beautiful.

When we stay at OKW, we go to eat at Coranado Springs. So I would suggest grabbing lunch at OKW and walking around. It's a beautiful walk. If you're interested in seeing SSR (as we fell in love  when we saw it), you can hit a trail back behind the South Point bus stop buildings and walk over to SSR and Downtown Dis.

Best of luck and I'll wish you an early "welcome home!" :cheer2:

If you go midday and there is a clean room not yet occupied, they might just show you around too. Ask the person at the DVC kiosk desk in HH!

 thanks for the great response-I've looked at so many present and past post that I feel like my head is spinning. I won't even attempt to even suggest that I understand the 11/7 reservation posts but I'm trying:surfweb: .
I know my needs for vacation will change in 10-15 years but I think it's wise to get a date that is good for now . I guess I could always buy more points later at a different month but I was hoping not to have to do this. okw looks like a tranquil retreat to me.:goodvibes

First, OKW is beautiful! We have stayed there (well, I've stayed 2x, my DH 3x) and we love it!
I think you are a little confused as to how DVC points work...lets say you buy 150 points for OKW, use year February, this does not mean that you have to vacation every year at the same time of year.....use them whenever you want, and if you can't seem to use them all that year-you can bank them or rent them.
February is when our use year begins, we just came back from our DCL/OKW (feb. 1 - 7) vacation, going to BCV in April, and then back to BCV again Oct/Nov, and then on to VWL in December.

As far as the 11/7 goes....you get to book your home resort 11 months from the date of your trip(busy times of year you book daily, not so busy times of year you wait until 11 months from the last date of your planned vacation and book).......want to go to a different DVC resort, you can book at 7 months out from your vacation (once again, real busy times, book daily, none busy times book 7 mos. out from the last day of your stay)

By the way, once you pass the guard booth....every one is walking around, looking, taking pictures, etc. so you won't feel out of place! But as another poster suggested, stop at the Hospitality House and ask if there is a room you could see!
Hope to be welcoming you home soon!

Your use year/month has NOTHING to do with WHEN you can book. Only your check-out date determins that. Let's say you want to book a 1 bedroom unit for June 1-7 2008. IF you own at OKW, your first date you can start booking that trip is July 2, 2007. That is 11 months from the check-out date of your first night. The date you could start booking the entire trip is July 8, 2007. That shows, that you are checking out on July 8, 2008, so again 11 months from check-out. Now that does NOT mean you MUST book only at those times, it just means that's when you can START booking at your home resort for those dates. The only thing dependant on the use year/month is when your points are put into your account. They will be accounted for by use year, but taken out of the correct year's points by accounting. Those points you would be using for that June 2008 trip would be coming from the February 2008 use year, even though you would be calling in July of 2007. If you wanted to use 2007 points for that trip, you would have had to bank your February 2007 points into your 2008 use year before the banking deadline.

It all sounds confusing to the novice, but it really is not all that hard to track. I think folks get too hung up on when the use year starts and that is what confuses them. The only time when your use year starts should be of any concern is if you expect to cancel trips often. If that is the case, you will want to have enough time left in your use year to bank those points into the next use year so they wont be lost. In 10 years of membership, we have NEVER had to do this, and I really don't see very many scenarios where that would happen.

Thanks I'm sort of getting it --feel like I need to file you post somewhere and re=read it over and over :headache: ,,,appreciate you time
hugs Mel

Love OKW. Our home resort. Taking the boat from DD is a great idea.
Stop at the check-ion counter and I am sure they will show you around.
