Can anyone suggest a magical ending for a trip with young children (7 and 4)? Our last day will be a Saturday so I am thinking we should avoid MK as much as I would love to go there for the fireworks. Am I correct? I am considering the Epcot Illuminations instead.

We're planning on doing dinner at O'hana on our last night and then watching Wishes from the beach at the Poly after dinner. It seemed like a nice way to end a wonderful trip. Its supposed to be great for kids!

Buzzfanmom has the right idea! We usually plan a special dinner and try to see fireworks, but if we don't that's okay. (This last trip it was the Luau, then watching some fireworks from the monorail).

We like to get back to the room early so we can totally pack up and get ready to check out. We check out first thing in the morning, store the bags at the hotel, and head out to a park.

During the morning we usually visit the park that my kids would like to return to (either EPCOT, MGM, or AK). Then in the afternoon we visit DTD and pick up a few souvenirs. At night we have dinner at the castle and just hang out. If MK is crowded, we still stay. Afterall, it is our last day at the park and we know it will be awhile until we are able to return.

Your kids are the PERFECT age to totally enjoy the HDDR dinner show! The luau is a great idea, too. I don't know what time MK closes your last night, but these shows are both close to MK, so you could either stay until closing and then hit a show, or go to an earlier show and after, watch wishes from beach or boat.

I'd say if you're not planning on doing one of these earlier in trip, the last night would be a great time. Dfinitely make time to see IllumiNations at some point, though. It's a don't miss. My kids prefer it to Fantasmic!, but nothing beats MK.

While it's true that Saturday nights in MK are typically crowded, I'd probably still go. You don't say when you are going so it's difficult to estimate actual crowds but I have to begin and end with MK every trip and my kids aren't even little anymore, lol. Since Sunday morning is the EMH at MK, perhaps the Saturday crowds thin out at a reasonable time? Perhaps wishful thinking though!!!

I would recommend either Wishes at MK or Fantasmic.

We usually do Fantasmic on our last night. I just can't wait until the last night to do Wishes. Both shows are awesome and well worth the wait. These are the kinds of magic that just keeps us returning to Disney!!
