Does anyone know any companies I can write to for donations for a chinese auction-I have local people canvassing the local stores but I was lookingto get some compies that donate to these things, I know panera does, and wendys (they sent 100 frostys) but does anyone know of any others you can write away to for donations? Thanks!

If you have a Trader Joe's by you they are very generous.

We usually get some donations from local universities, sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, etc. for a school fundraiser we did. Just write the marketing department at the college/university and let them know what you are doing and could they donate a shirt or whatever.

Great, we have a few colleges around here, I will give them a shot too!
I've gotten from like the local playhouses and amusement parks etc but still need much more.

Starbucks and Target have always donated to my school's theme tray auction. Our local sports teams are also v. generous -- sometimes sending an autographed item (hockey puck, hockey stick, football, etc.) or tickets to a game. Also, the university/college sports are good at donating game tickets as well. Try your local theatre, too. Our local childrens theatre has donated tickets in the past.

The Pleasant Company (makes American Girl Dolls) used to donate an American Girl Doll. They will only do this one time, and once your organization has received one, the will not give your organization one at a later date.

You have to be a non-profit organization to get this donation.

Our PTA needed to write a letter requesting this donation. You cannot request a specific doll, and they have the right to turn down your request. It also takes about 8 weeks to get this.

I do not know if they still do this, we did this about 4 or 5 years ago.

Restaurants like Red Lobster

In Girl Scouts our Service Unit rep goes to different restaurants. Just ask and see what they can do for your group.

Local Crafts stores always donate around here...
Best Wishes
I love Gift Auctions cause I always win..

What does trader joes give, a gift cert or actual products?

I'm not sure about Trader Joe's (ours is due to open SOON), but the other grocery stores (Kroger & Publix) around here usually donate gift certificates. Whole Foods has donated gift certificates and has also donated dessert trays that we actually served at the silent auction.

I've found that the most popular donations at silent auctions I've been involved in (both pre-school and elementary) are: restaurants, kid's party places or performers, summer camps or classes and museum or club memberships. Our local YMCA has donated a family membership every year and is always sought after.

I grew up on LI, but it's been years since I've been there. Have you tried the LI Game Farm (Is it even still there?) or the aquarium out in Riverhead?

Mary

How did you get Wendy's to donate ? Local or through the main office? I would love these for our Library summer reading program.

Could you please consider calling this event something else? The term "Chinese auction" is offensive to many people.

In the past they have given certificates as well as product. For an outside event they gave fruit leather which the kids just loved!

I'm co-chair my kids Silent Auction again this year.....

Walt Disney World sent 4 one day hopper tickets...:cheer2:

I've never heard the term "Chinese Auction" what does that mean?

That is what everyplace around here calls them, they are not known by any other name.

Their main office, also if you contact applebees they give cert. for free desserts to the school.

Does it matter if that's what everyone else does? That name truly is offensive.

Anyhoo. One of our biggest bids is a ride to school on a fire truck, last year I think we got about $1200 dollars for it.

Disney does give 1 day hopper passes. See if someone has summer rental they would raffle off for a weeks vacation~thats always a good one.
