Hi there folks. Have been watching these boards for a while and thought that i would finally join. We have used these boards for the last few occasions that we have been to florida. Couldn't have done half the things without the advice on here.

Anyway, we are thinking of booking flights only and arranging our own accomodation. We have been online and looked at a few places but its hard to choose. Our favourite one at the moment is the hilton on westwood blvd near i-drive. It worked out at about £400 for the two weeks.

If anyone has any other ideas, websites to look at we would be very grateful.

many thanks

Welcome to the DIS

Are you looking for off-site or on-site accomodation in a hotel?

if you are looking to stay on I-Drive then i highly recommend the crowne plaza universal. stayed there november last year and it was totally amazing. staff and facilities were great. its about 500 yards off i drive so you dont get the noise of a hotel on i drive. its a $6 taxi ride to universal a short I-ride to sea world, and has free transport to disney universal and sea world.

if you decide to go with that hotel let me know and I'll fill you in with all the info and how the transport works etc ahead of time

Welcome Disney Bint
A few links I use for hotels. Check them all, Check them again, next day check again. A bargain will turn up. Maybe I have too much time on my hands but I check every day until I find a bargain.
I nearly always find a bargain or a mistake. 2 I have found in last few years.
15 nights Oct 2003 Radisson Resort Parkway £25/night
13 nights Oct 2004 Homewood Suites - Hospitality Way £22/night incl B/fast for 3.
Also consider a Virgin package. This Oct (2 Adults, 1 child) to book flight only was going to cost £2,108.20 but to book a package £1784.60 including 3 weeks accomodation at the B.W Lakeside (formerly Laquinta Lakeside). So we saved over £300 and free hotel. Don't use Virgin car hire though use airnet.co.uk pick up from the same Dollar desk but £150 cheaper (3 weeks full size)
Sorry could go on forever about saving money on trips to Florida.
Hope the links help.

Thanks for all the info. Will keep checking those sites. Also, has anyone done the last minute thing of getting a flydrive? We are having to go a few days before the october half term because of the kids at school. We can only manage to get them a couple of days off(threatened to lose their places last time we took them out of school). We want to do it as a surprise for the kids and it is a last minute treat for us for working hard all year round(we only get a couple of weeks off a year).

We have checked a few sites but cant seem to get anything cheap/direct flights.

many thanks again

You may find it difficult getting a cheap direct flight or fly drive either side of the half term. We also are usinf the half term week plus another week £2650 for 2 ad + 3 kids fly drive. We couldn't beat this price (TCD). Going three weeks earlier we could have saved £800.
