I'm hoping some of you PA people can give me suggestions for a decent hotel on I-80 to stay at which to stay that is located about 1-2 hours from Bayonne, NJ. We're driving there from Cleveland for a cruise and do not want to leave our house at 6:00am, so we figured we'd drive most of the way the afternoon before, relax, and get up and have only a couple hour drive the next day.

I'm looking for nice, but inexpensive.

All suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,
Pam

Pam, I may be wrong but it seems to be a wee bit risky to be in PA if I were trying to meet a deadline for a cruise sailing. While it may be possible to do so, I would recommend going further into NJ to stay somewhere closer, perhaps near Denville, NJ.

Why? The traffic could be a problem on I-80.

But, at the Delaware Water Gap at Stroudsburg, PA there is a Ramada Ltd at exit 53 that you might consider. There are other motels near Stroudsburg that you could look into. I wouldn't stay any further west than the Delaware Water Gap though.

I figured it would be cheaper to stay somewhere in PA, rather than NJ. Plus, the ship does not even leave the port until 10:00 PM! I want to be there around noon. That would mean I'd have to leave Cleveland at 5:00 am - way too early for me. So, we thought we could stay somewhere for the night, get up and leave around 10:00ish and have had an nice night's sleep and not be rushed in the morning. Our cruise leaves on a Sunday, not during the week so we're looking to spend Saturday night in a hotel.

Stroudsburg looks like the perfect location. I want to try priceline...are there any hotels/areas I should avoid? As this is the first stay of our vacation, we would like to to be halfway decent...just not way overpriced!

Thanks again,
Pam

I'm posting this on the Disney Boards because I know how active they are...I DO do Disney vacations, but this is a little extra vaca for just me and my husband - our first ever vacation together without any kids. (It's just a 5 night cruise). We've been together 11 years and never even went on a honeymoon!

Your response gives a different slant on things. Since you are arriving on a Sunday to the port, the traffic in NJ will be considerably less, especially on I-80 and near the port. Also, since you don't need to arrive at the port until noon on Sunday, your idea is a very good one.

Also, it should be considerably less expensive to stay in PA. There are many motels in the Delaware Water Gap area. I would try for a 2 1/2 * motel in the area, if you are using priceline.

One other possibility would be to go south of I-80, using route 33, which takes you to the Easton/Allentown/Bethleham PA area. Route 33 through Wind Gap is a few miles east of the Scranto (I-380) exit off I-80.

There are 2* and 3* hotels in the Easton area that are not too expensive. From there just take I-78 and I-278 to the port. It would be very easy to do on Sunday.

Have a great honeymoon cruise.

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me all that info! I was discussing this idea with a friend and he suggested maybe staying in Atlantic City...We've never been there, either. So now I am going to look into Friday and Saturday night in Atlantic City! They have CHEAP bus trips from Cleveland so maybe we can even figure out how to do it that way. Then we'd just need to take a cab or something (depending on how far it is) from Atlantic city to the port. It's going to cost us AT LEAST 50.00 to park at the port for 5 nights, plus our gas (25.00ish?) so maybe we can make out with some bus/hotel deal to Atlantic City.

So much to think about! It's not a Disney vacation, but I'm still having fun planning it. We won't be back to Disney again until probably 2006 :-( Hubby wants to do Sea Pines in Hilton Head in 2005 and we're skipping our 2004 vacation in lieu of a putting in a pool and patio. (new home).

Thanks again so much for the info!

Pam
