Thought I would post this here to my well travelled friends. My sister is going down to NYC for May long weekend and are looking for a reasonably priced, well located and nice and clean hotel. Any suggestions?

Let me know ok?:thumbsup2
Reasonably priced and New York City do not go hand in hand!
I am going May 2-7 and still have no Hotel as I cannot find one for what I am willing to pay! I am trying Priceline..and don't expect much success there until perhaps one week prior.

It's tricky! Good luck!

We stayed at the Residence Inn Times Square and loved it.

We're going through the same problem:sad2: ...we are going to NYC May 24 weekend also...I know, it's not WDW:eek: , but we thought for a change of pace, we'd head to the Big Apple....and people complain about the hotel prices at Disney:crazy:

We were even looking at staying just across the border in New Jersey and cabbing it (some hotels say they have a shuttle to Manhattan)...has anyone done this?

hey damo...tried the Residence Inn...no go for our dates:sad1: ...but thanks anyway

I've stayed at both Sheraton's in Manhattan. Once was work so price didn't matter and the other was personal, so I went directly to the hotels website and looked for specials. The best I could find was stay 2 nights get the 3rd free for Thurs-Sun stays. They are in a great location(almost across the street from each other) only a short walk to central park in one direction or an even shorter walk to times square in the other direction. The rooms are clean, and not too big but the location was almost worth paying full price for.

There's good news and bad news in NYC hotel prices. The bad news is that they are high - very high. I just had dinner in the city tonight and a colleague of mine staying at the Westin Times Square said the rate tonight is $459....its not unusual for good chains like Westin, Hyatt, and Marriotts to crack $500 for a night...taxes and parking add another $100! The good news is that you're in NYC - prices are high for a reason - supply and demand - and with the high rate means that there is SO MUCH THERE FOR YOU - you're in NEW YORK CITY!

The one budget-saving tip to consider is as a previous poster mentioned - you can always stay in NJ (Newark Airport Marriott has very low wknd rates of about $119 - during the week its $259) and hoof it into the city but this is clearly not preferred (important to have a place to rest in the city during the day, at least if you're me)

Good Luck! and enjoy the city!!

The Quality Hotel Times Square usually has pretty good rates and they are only 1/2 block from Times Square. I checked for the long weekend and the rate showing was $260 US. The rate goes down to $161 during the week. You might also want to check the Super 8 in North Bergen, NJ. We stayed there when we took our motorhome to NY. There was a shuttle bus that stopped right at the hotel. I have heard, however, that the shuttle has changed and no longer runs later in the evening.

hey jersey shark...or anyone else....do you have a ballpark price what it would cost to cab it from Newark Airport Marriott (or any other NJ hotel close to NYC) to midtown Manhattan..like are we thinking $20 or $50 or :scared1:

We're planning a trip for the end of July and the Doubletree is coming up as a highly recommended hotel...largely due to its location and the fact that you would be getting a 2 room suite for the price. There are lots of very positive reviews on tripadvisor.com

It looks like the price is in the range of $350-$450 per night. So, its not definitely not cheap. But we are a family of 5 and, for the location, it definitely cheaper than getting two rooms.

Has anyone stayed at this place?

Expedia has some good deals on the Affinia hotels, but it depends on your dates. We stayed at the Affina Dumont, my brother stayed at Beekman Tower and a friend stayed at the Affinia Manhattan (all differnt trips). Tripadvisor rates them highly and so do we. Sometimes Last Minute Travel has good deals on them as well.

...the Doubletree Times Square is a great choice for families when staying in NYC,,,I'd also recommend the Marriott Residence Inn, the Embassy Suites (though downtown location is a bummer -you want to be midtown), or the Rhiga Royal for all-suite comfort.

...cab prices run about $70 (incl tip) from the NewarK Airport area to midtown Manhattan....the best bet by far is the $12 ride on the AirTrain to Penn Station (take NJ Transit trains - and remember that there are TWO Penn Stations - one in Newark, you wnat the one in NYC!)

...NYC can be very expensive, but I feel most of the very best stuff to see/experience is free or inexpensive....hotels really are difficult to find good deals on - if you travel at all and have accumulated points on the Marriott/Hyatt/Westin etc... frequent stay programs - by all means, NYC is the place to redeem those free nights!!!!

....when in NYC, grab a gyro and pretzel for lunch from a street vendor - they're delicious and the full meal will be less than $5! Enjoy!

Thanks jersey shark...can always count on you for advice...sounds like we should get the hotel in midtown Manhattan...and just pay the piper:eek: ....

....I'm sure we'll enjoy NYC, but give me WDW anyday:earsboy:

Stayed at the Comfort inn a couple of years ago. Room was small but clean and a couple of blocks from Time Square.

I just got back from NYC for the spring break...
We stayed at The Best Western Presidental Inn...
I thought it was reasonable priced...and I really had no compliants about it...it located right of times square and walkable to many hit locations....its not five star hotel, but very suitable for a stay IMPO.
NYC is just absolutely amazing, and I hope you all have a wonderful trip like I did.

Try the Travel Inn on West 42nd (at 10th). We've stayed there 2 years in row. It's not far from Times Square and the walk is safe. We had no worries walking back from Times Square at night. It's across from a police station too!

It is one of the few places that has free parking for guests!! Very reasonable prices. Staff are pretty friendly (well, the night staff was very friendly...really nice guys). Rooms are clean and actually have windows you can open if you're into "fresh" air.

Starbucks on the corner and a grocery store and pharmacy nearby.

It's about 2 blocks from times square and very reasonably priced both times I stayed there. Check Expedia because they sometimes have sales. Mine was stay at least 3 nights and get 20% off of your stay.

Rooms are tiny, but me and BF didn't mind, we were barely in there anyhow! I just went in Feb.

We are going down for the May 24 long weekend as well. I have stayed on Lexington one time and a the Doubletree Suites in Times Square last year. Doubletree is amazing and very large but they have no rooms available. So this year we are staying at the trendy and hip Night Hotel. It has good ratings but is small. I wanted my wife to experience the bustle of Times Square for her first visit and refused to be too far away from it. Plus we are going to Beauty and the Beast and Lion King so I wanted to be close.

Regs,

Chad J.
