Looking for home remedies for baby teething.

My DD has a real problem with teething -- screams and cries. Baby Tylenol helps a little bit, but Baby Orajel REALLY helps a lot.

Good Luck!

A clean wash cloth with one corner wet slightly, wrung till almost dry and put in the freezer. Give to baby after 2 minutes or so in the freezer and let them chew that corner. We used to keep 2-3 in the freezer at any given moment. We have also been known to alternate the frozen with one dipped in hot water. Sometimes that worked better to alternate it.

And the one that will probably get me in trouble ;)
Cherry Brandy. Applied directly to the gums. A TINY amount but it numbs it and isn't a store bought -caine derivative (you know the ones....nova-caine, benzo-caine, CO-caine-Can you tell I'm not a fan of narcotics? No matter how 'safe' they are supposed to be!). Edited to say, this was approved by my pedi, for my children, but you should definitely ask yours first!

Oh and I forgot one of our favorites. You know those rubber finger tip things from the office supply store that are nubbed a little for seperating pages? We would boil them to sterilize and massage their gums, this worked wonders for one kid and the other hated it!

Hyland's homeopathic teething tablets are AWESOME!!!! They are the ONLY thing that worked for my ds!

I let my kids chew on freeze-pops when they were teething--you know, the popsicle things that are in those plastic tubes. When it would start to thaw, I would rinse it off, throw it back in the freezer and get them a new one. They both seemed to find some relief with that.

::yes:: I don't know what they put in this "natural" product, but my kids still beg for Hylands! There are other Hyland products for babies as well.
Hylands are well worth the price and there is no bad oder or bad taste. The product is chalk like (looks like a mini-mini marshmellow) and disolves quickly. I can't endorse this product enough. Well, maybe I can....

Here are a couple that work great for the older teether...think those back molars!

My mom gave DS a small cup with frozen peas when his molars were coming in and he'd fuss...he loved it and it's a healthy snack.

My cousin used to give her daughters frozen waffles...at first I thought it was strange, but they liked it...so ya never know what might work.

Good luck with the teething!

My dad's favorite remedy was a shot of whiskey:

The parent pours a shot, dips his/her finger in the whiskey (or alcohol of your choice), then rubs it on the baby' gums. Then the parent drinks the shot.

Baby is calm, parent is happy. Sounds like a win-win to me!!

I never used that on my own kids. Frozen washclothes and frozen waffles worked best for me.

This is exactly what we did with DS when he was a baby and he loved it, but hated the chilled teething rings. Our DD was fine with Motrin (over 6 months old) but not Tylenol when she was an infant. She just cut her one year molars and didn't need anything at all.

I feel your pain as my sweet little 16 mo GS is cutting 4 molars and 4 eye teeth at once. :guilty:

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 God Bless the person who invented teething tablets!!
A couple other ideas are: a clean damp wash cloth with an ice cube in middle and tie it. This way their hands don't get frozen. Another idea we've used is the small bagels frozen.

ITA!! Twin mommy here, double the pain, these really worked!

Frozen spoons, the ones with plastic handles for kids.

Hyland's didnt work for my son. I used a baby safe feeder, like a little mesh bag with a handle. I would freeze grapes, peas or use an ice cube and put that in there. Worked great for my son.

My wife has been reading about these but we did not know if they worked or not.

I bought some today.

I am a little worried bout putting them under her tonuge so we disolved them in water and gave the to our baby.

Hoping it works.

What you do is you go to the cupboard and get out some brandy...

Then drink it!!!! :lmao:

Okay, I've seriously missed out on this part of the directions  good thing I'll have one more teether to try this one out on! :woohoo:

Here's a real home remedy: My mother loves to tell the story of how when I was a baby and starting to "teethe", my great-grandfather came walking across the field to our house, and handed her A MOLE'S FOOT ON A STRING!!!! He insisted that she tie it around my neck, and promised that I would never have another teething problem. She said it worked like a charm! But...ewwwwww!! Not to mention.....poor mole!

Can you imagine, today, seeing a cute little baby in a Target shopping cart with a mole's foot hanging around it's neck?

I highly recommend the homeopathic remedies, myself. Good luck!
