My search function isn't working. So I apologize if this has been asked before  .

We are headed to Hershey in July. I have already made our hotel arrangements. The plan is to go to Gettysburg on Sunday. Hershey Park on Monday. Hershey Chocolate World on Tuesday and head to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos on Wednesday.

Anything I shouldn't miss in Hershey? We will be two families: 4 adults, 6 kids (all boys ages 8,8,7,7,3,1). Any great restaurants we should make ressies for or any other area tips?

Thanks so much for all the help.

Amie

I would suggest that you do Chocolate world first, then go to the park that night for their "preview plan." That way you get an extra few hours when the park isn't so crowded. plus save you parking pass, you might be able to use it again the next day. Have fun, my family LOVED Hershey!!

My family did the chocolate world tour last. It was extremely hot when we went during the summer, so that was a nice cool down at the end of the day!!

You won't need the whole day to do Chocolate World. Even with the show that has an admission fee (sorry, don't remember the name) the most you'd be there is about three hours.

If it wasn't summertime, I'd say stock up on the chocolate in the shop at Chocolate world-the prices are great! I still have some dutch cocoa powder from my last trip.

We usually (but for this year, we went to disney) do HP passes so we are there every week....

Chocolate World will only take about an hour to 'do'. I would do the children's garden (across the street) with CW and maybe go to Lancaster (20 minutes or so) the rest of the day. Honestly I wouldn't bother with the Hershey musuem there. Boring....

Lancaster/Strasburg has a railroad you can ride and most kids love it. A railroad musuem too. Lancaster has the amish and many tours and great quilt shops.

York  has many factory tours (think Harley Davidson, etc...) you could do. Some require ressies and have age limits. I wouldn't go out of your way for these but if interested you will pass though on the way to Gettysburg.

Thanks guys. This info is great. I will have to start do my research. Funny thing, you start planning years in advance for a Disney vacation and then went we want to go somewhere else, I know nothing :teeth:

If you've never been to knoebels, you need to take a road trip and go...
It's one of the best, good old fashioned amusement parks still in existence.

Ssshhhhhhh!!!!!! Knoebels is our secret.

I can't help you with restaurants. We don't eat in Hershey very often, except at the Wendy's or Red Robin that are outside of the parks in the parking lot of the outlet mall.

I sent you a PM, though, Mickey Flyers.

My kids love Hershey Park. We have relatives in the area, so we always make it a day trip. Funny, as much as my kids were raised on/at WDW, they can't wait to go to Hershey Park. I love the chocolate kisses street lights.

Chocolate World isn't that much of an attraction. An hour should cover it for you.

I did see on the Travel Channel a restaurant in the plush Hershey hotel in which everything on the menu is made with chocolate. I've always wanted to eat there.

And yes, Knobels is on our list to visit - one of these days. I hear its a wonderful park.

Can anyone tell me how far Knoebels is from Hershey? Or Long Island, lol?

You guys are great. I knew I came to the right place. I talked to the other family we are travelling with and they picked up some $8 off coupons. So, I have that going for us. If we do the "Preview plan" on Monday night, we would have all day Tuesday at Hershey Park. Hoping that it won't be too crowded early in the week.

I am going to print all of these tips and take them with us.

Thanks again and keep them coming :thumbsup2

Second the Lancaster/Strasburg Railroad.

My kids love the railroad and the museum across the street. If you've got railroad fans, it is cool to go in and out of all the different trains! Right up the road is the Red Caboose restaurant and motel-the rooms are half of old railroad cars!

There's Miller's smorgasboard in Lancaster on 30-first experience with Apple Pan Dowdy (I kept singing the shoo fly pie song while we were waiting, lol) and then there's Willow Valley. Great food in their restaurant, great resort, reasonably priced, too!

Another thing, if it's open, is Koziar's Christmas Village in Bernville.

For Hershey park bring consider bringing swimsuits/towels/ water shoes and putting them in a locker.
You will get wet if you ride the water rides -not damp- WET.
They don't want you to wear your suits out of the water section (I think that is a good idea).

We went a couple years ago.I got a guide book and a trip tik from AAA which was very helpful. If you are not a member it would be worth it to join as it also gives you travel discounts and care service(towing, flat repair, gas drop off ) which is a plus on long trip. We loved Amish country. We stopped in Bird inHand,Blue Bells and Intercourse. We made pretzels at the pretzel factory in front of the Intercourse canniong co.We stopped and did a corn maze(take the map-we were lost until after dark!). We loved Good N Plenty and another smorgasbord restaurant whose name escapes me.Chocolate world had a 3 d movie and a factory tour as well as a food court with lots of chocolate choices.DS liked the car museum across the street.DD liked the roller soaker where you get to dump water on unsuspecting strangers. We liked the zoo too.
have fun!

***I don't think coupons work on the twilight deal or the other package deals they sell, only the one day passes.

Knoebels (?) is 1 1/2 hours from Hershey, approx. Dh has family there in Elysburg (?) so we do the trip every year but have never been to the park. Sorry I don't know far from LI.

They just redid Chocolate World but it should only take about 1hr or 1 1/2 to go through. you should be fine on a weekday as from the times we have gone during the week it is never that crowded in the park.

Seriously, it is my FAVORITE place to be....next to WDW that is ;)

In July, I'm taking my kids (7 and 3) to PA; we were going to Dutch Wonderland and the train station - I haven't heard of Knoebels!
