Hello just wondered if there were any fellow pharmacy tech's out there!I work in a hospital and would like to know about other's experiences! :flower:

I never worked in a Hospital pharmacy, just retail. Some of the things I learned:

1. Monday's are H-E-double hockey sticks! They suck.
2. Insurance companies and patients are NEVER on the same page. And you have to be the one to tell the patient they have to pay $500 for this medicine this month. Never goes over well.
3. ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS double count and sign off on controlled drugs. If need be have the pharmacist double check. It saved my butt several times.
4. Multi-tasking abilities are lifesavers!

I really enjoyed working in a pharmacy. I did it for 6 years and I really miss it. It was fast-paced but I loved it!

Just jumping in because I'd love to hear about your experiences, too. I just applied to the local hospital for a Pharmacy Tech job ... never worked in one brefore, but I've always been interested in the field. Still waiting to hear from them.

I'd love to hear what it's like !
:)

I was a pharmacy tech in high school and early college. Many moons ago:) Anyway...I LOVED the job and I wish I would have finished college and become a pharmacist...instead I quit after my junior year to become a wife and mother...oh how I wish I would have finished the last two years (it would have been 5 years for me to finish:)

As a former manager of a RX store, I think RX employees are over worked and underpayed. These Stores are often understaffed, causing employees to work long hours and multiple days without any days off. This may not be the norm at all chains but it was the norm in all the stores in our area.

Im not a pharmacy tech, I am a medical assistant, but my sister works as a PT in Osco Drug's (Nite0wl71's other DD)

 Pharmacy tech here.... and I work for my DH! I have never worked in the hospital setting - we own our own pharmacy. I agree that Mondays are awful as are the days after a holiday.

Insurance companies are the worst - you will learn to hate them in a hurry. They want to pay the pharmacies nothing for their services. It's kind of hard to pay the bills if you lose a little on every sale! :confused3

On the bright side people will trust you and understand that you are there to help. That's what makes the job worthwhile! :goodvibes

I was a full time certified pharmacy tech until I had my 5 year old daughter. I worked in retail. To make my job better I worked in an area where the customers had an attitude that they deserve what they want when they want regardless of having a valid prescription, think that calling the drs office for a refill takes 1 second etc. I actually miss the job and would consider going back one day when my 1 year old is in school. I have continued to do the continuing ed to maintain my certification though I only do the free ones.
