I am looking for new empty prescription bottles to use as a party favor for a 50th birthday party. My brother loves jelly beans, so we thought we would make bogus prescription bottles and fill them with jelly beans.

Someone posted on the web that they bought theirs at Walgreens for .10 a piece, but I just called them and they said they don't sell empty prescription bottles.

I did find some used ones on ebay, but I don't want to be worried about residue from medicine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :thumbsup2

I see that Amazon has a few listings for them (not cheap though at about $9/dozen)... Or I'd ask a mom&pop drug store (not a chain).

Hi, Maybe you could do small glass bottles?? Think of OLD prescription bottles, and you could print up your own labels. If you enter "small glass bottles" on Amazon you will see what I mean. This way they are clean and you will be able to see the jelly beans color :). Joan

Ok, I'll be the party pooper. This is a terrible idea. Putting candy in this type of container can be deadly in the long run. If someone takes this home or a child sees it, guess what they will be eating later on. There was a pharmacy that did this for their grand opening and two children later poisoned themselves eating a jar of medication. One of them died.

Do you have a local Freecycle? You could post on their what you are looking for and anyone who has them can contact you.

I'm not sure if they still do, but Party City used to sell gag prescription bottles filled with jelly beans. The bottle was not your usual orange color- it was clear, but the label was made to look like an rx label.

Googled and found http://valuevials.com. The prices seem pretty reasonable -- don't know how many you need (looks like 140 is the minimum, but at less than $25, seems reasonable). Also I don't know the sizes of bottles -- you might want to find a bottle you like and ask Walgreens what the size is.

If you get them off of ebay you can wash them. As far as this being a bad idea for kids, medicines should be locked away and kept up high and out of reach for children. Also, talking to your kids, if they are old enough, about the harms of eating medication out of a medicine bottle will be a good start. If there is candy in the bottle, it should be removed from the bottle and given to the child separately until they are old enough to understand you shouldn't eat anything out of a pill bottle. Don't give the pill bottle directly to the child and tell them they can eat what is inside. You are sending them the wrong message.

We have container stores and specialty stores that sell them but agree that it would not be a good idea to give if kids are around.
