Looking for DL area hotel

A little background..... we (my SO and I) were originally going to vist DLR this coming April. Due to all the closures and rehabs, we decided to go to WDW instead. Circumstances forced us to change our plans to June. I then realized that the Indy rehab will be complete, and ToT will be open at DCA so we decided to switch our plans back to DLR. We had planned on staying at PPH as we had a great stay there the last time. This time we have decided to take her son and his GF with us, which means two rooms, putting PPH out of our price range (looking at five nights at this point in the planning). Here's what we are looking for.....

We would prefer a hotel with interior corridors. We don't absolutely have to have this, but would prefer it. We would like to be no more than a 10-15 minute walk from the parks as we aren't theme park commandos (I'm reformed), and like to take a mid day break, and don't want to have to be tied down to a shuttle that runs every thirty minutes or so. We would also like a hotel with a decent restaurant and maybe a lounge/bar where we can relax in the evenings if we want. Free breakfast (continental or otherwise) would be great, but not required.

I've researched a few, but am interested in hearing what some of you might recommend, or even not recommend.

WE REALLY LIKE THE WESTCOAST ANAHEIM. IT IS A HOTEL, NOT A NOTEL. I BELIEVE 12 OR SO FLOORS AND INTERIOR CORRIDORS. ALSO A NICE RESTAURANT/CAFE AND A STEAKHOUSE. IT IS ABOUT 1 BLOCK, OR ABOUT 10-12 MINUTES. WE'VE HAD GREAT EXPERIENCES AND FROM SOME ROOMS YOU CAN SEE DCA AT NIGHT (HIGH FLOOR, PARK FACING). TO LOOK IT UP YOU HAVE TO LOOK UNDER COAST HOTELS, I THINK. GOOD LUCK. OH ADN WE USUALLY PAY AROUND $65 PER NIGHT, SOMETIMES BUYING 3 NIGHTS AND GETTING A 4TH FREE. HAVE FUN!

P.S. WE ALSO LIKE THAT THERE IS A 7-ELEVEN ON THE WAY TO THE DISNEY ENTRANCE FOR WATERS AND SUCH. MUCH CHEAPER

No offence taken here The Westcoast Anaheim is on my short list of possiblities, so it's nice to hear from someone who has stayed there.

We stayed at the West Coast Anaheim a couple of years ago. We got the reservation using Priceline and only paid $45/night. I called before we arrived to verify any extra charges and was given tax rates, etc. It wasn't until we checked out that we were shocked to see a parking charge of $12/day. High parking rates are the norm around DL but it was not something we were expecting and were quite upset. Other than that, it was still an inexpensive stay at a decent hotel. It's a little older, but well maintained.

Our last visit was spent at the Crowne Plaza. You would have to use the shuttle bus but it is very efficient and the hotel is beautiful. They had a special running in which the 4th night was free. I believe it came out to be about $65/night. There is a Target across the street that we used to stock up on water, snacks, soft drinks, etc. Didn't have a car on that trip so I'm not sure what parking charges would be.

How do I find out what is going to be closed at DL in April too? We are going at that time and didn't even think about attractions being closed during that time.

I check over at Mouseplanet. Their info usually seems to be correct. Scroll down towards the bottom of the park updates page I've linked to and there will be a list of current and upcoming rehabs and closures. Indy is supposed to open back up April 2nd after it's rehab, but with Space closed, and BTMRR possibly still being closed we didn't want to take the chance. I'm kind of glad we ended up having to wait until June.

If you refer back to the map link above, it seems like from reviews that of the lodging directly across the street from the enterance that Best Western Park Place Inn is the nicest. Park Vue gets very bad reviews. Desert Inn is reviews are iffy.

We like Candy Cane Inn alot, it does have exterior corridors, but when we go there we always feel at home. The staff is over the top friendly, the rooms are very comfortable. If your feet give out (they have the most reliable shuttle. The grounds are very clean, they have a small well kept pool.

We use Priceline 3 star Disneyland option alot. We tend to get Hyatt Regency (mile away) or Marriott Convention Area. We love both. The Marriott has the best pool and Hyatt Regency is liberal on the upgrades (for a small fee)We got WestCoast once on Priceline as well - we liked our room and were able to view the fireworks with ease Bidding for Travel has helped us greatly when we decide to bid.

We stayed here in Oct. 2001! Got a great deal on www.getawaytoday.com. It was really nice and we walked to the parks every day. Check out getawaytoday, they have some good deals, and we got free parking at the hotel with our pkg. Their site is down now, they update it at the fist of the year, but it will be up soon, or you can call the 1-800 #....sometimes they beat the web prices if you call!

I really like the Howard Johnson. It has 6 different buildings with interior corridors and most rooms have balconies. It is right across from the park, some rooms having a view of the fireworks, Matterhorn and monorail. You can often hear the train whistle in your room. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a small though packed store with soda, milk, snacks, toiletries and meds. Across the street is a Mimi's Cafe and the walk to the parks is 7-10 minutes or you can purchase the ART shuttle passes. The grounds here a pretty with lots of trees. It is located next to highway 5 so some rooms are a bit noise. Just aske to be put away from the freeway. There are two pools. One is new with a small kids water play area. The quiet pool is surrounded by pine trees and is pretty. Rooms are $69-89.

I agree with the Hojo's recommendation, especially if you prefer indoor corridors. The rooms are very nice sized and comfy and clean! We stayed there 12/26-12/30 and very much enjoyed it. The kids loved seeing the fireworks from our window and loved the view of the matterhorn. We were in the tower 7th floor!

BUT, I also agree with the recommendation of the Best Western Park Place Inn. We stayed there last April and really enjoyed that stay too, comfy large room and breakfast(not much but enough)and walked right across the street!

Can't go wrong with either!
