Please tell me if I am in the wrong place.
I sew very well. It kept us financially sound during the slim years. I owned a design company for many years. My children are all grown and I have no grandchildren but I still want to design and sew. I would love to do sewing and embroidery and wheelchair/walker bags for free just to keep on sewing. DH has built me the most awesome room filled with all my machines but I want to do something meaningful with it.
Can anyone direct me to the right place to donate things like custom embroidered chemo caps, wheelchair/walker bags, etc? I have had several friends lose their lives to cancer recently and if I could make a difference in any way to other families. I promised my dear frend I would do this to help others. I wish I had a picture of her in her chemo cap the last day she was alive! She smiled, she was so cold so it made a differnce to her.
Any links? James Cancer is the nearest. Who do I call to find out what they need?

Go to the family section then to the disboutiquers. It is a lovely group of women and a guy that sew. There is a link to the Big Gives. It is where we get to follow a family through a pre trip report and then we custom sew for the make a wish child and their entire family. It is very rewarding, and also sad when we say goodbye to those that God calls.

I hope you consider joining the Big gives and we would be grateful for your talent.

Thank you Minnie! I just want to keep a promise and sewing is what I do best!
I will look into the big give but I want to do something around home too. :cloud9: for those who are so worried and just want some hugs.

Maybe contact your local hospital. I know at the hospital that I used to work for there was a group of volunteers who would make lap quilts, baby hats, and walker bags. Maybe there is a similar group near you.

Also, you can contact local camps and see if they need anything. I sew horses for Victory Junction Gang Camp and they need quilts too. (I am not at quilt level yet).

What got me into sewing was dd needed a weighted blanket. The ones she like in the size she needed were close to $200. Including my starter Brother machine I only spent $100 making hers. I know there are lots of organizations that need weighted blankets and stuff too. I have a pattern for walker organizers that I got from JoAnns for 99 cents.

Project Linus is a great way to get involved too. It may not be exactly what you are looking for but they can help find what you're looking for.

You could sew Wish Pillows for Give Kids The World if you wanted to. Here is a link to the thread where I posted the directions for others to make them. Just another possibility.

You all are so sweet! Thank you for the suggestions. You all are so giving also. I hope I can follow in your steps and make a differnce is just one persons life.:thumbsup2

Also, since you have already made chemotherapy caps, check out the American Cancer Society. They may not have a local contact in your area, but there should be a state affiliate and they will probably be aware of someone who can use your talents.

Newdrama12, I can't see the link.
I did go to Project Linus and a few of their links. It's a great place to start.
Thank you again!
