Can anyone tell me/describe all that goes down at these DVC meetings at BLT where they discuss current offers at the top of the world lounge in the afternoons? Particularly, can someone answer these questions:

1. how long the event last? (starts at 1pm correct?)

2. what kind of food is offered? (i.e., can you skip lunch for it?)

3. what "goodies" do they hand out (I heard fastpasses for example)

4. how many FPs are given (for example, if I go, and my wife watches the kids, does everyone in my party get the FPs are is it just me?)

5. I heard there was something different about these FPs?

6. are the offers any better or worse than what is available to everyone right now?

7. how late do you think I could be and "still make it there" (we would be coming straight from the airport on our check in day)

Anything else I should know or you think would want to know?

thanks in advance for the help!

The event is great and worth it.

The event is great and worth it.

Just to be clear, did the event last an hour FOR YOU (i.e., 1:30 since you got there late to 2:30) or did it last an hour and was only 1/2 hour for you (i.e., the event lasted from 1-2 pm)

It lasted about 30 min for us (because we were late). But this is just the warm fuzzy presentation (little movies about Disney dream, trivia contest....). So the time spent at the top of the tower is a bit over 1 hour. Then they break into groups and do a tour (15-20 min), then if you want you can talk to a sales person.

One thing that troubled me is you don't talk to your own sales guide. You talk to someone else and though they say your guide will get a commission, but they admitt it is much smaller than if you bought from them. I don't like that.

How often do these happen? How do you find out?

They let you know when you check in or else they will send you a voice mail in your room. When we were there in March, ours was in the morning (9ish, I think), and we toured the TOTW lounge and had our presentation there. They played a "timeline of DVC" game and also a trivia game where they awarded prizes, and then they made the special offers and let us go in groups to go up to one of the GVs. Anyone who wanted to take advantage of the offers could do so before the GV tour. Then when we left, they gave us each a special fast pass the gave you 3 instant fast passes each.

I too was wishing our real guide was there, but that's not the way they handled it.

I agreed. It's a catch 22 situation as you can't get the better incentives without taking the tour, but your guide loses a significant portion of the commission. And according to our guide that sharing of commission is in effect for 30 days after the tour.

our was about 1 1/2hour - had fun.

it was different than their normal sales pitch. the breakfast was that - they had a little bit of everything (no bacon and eggs) - but just about everything else.

mind was at 7:30 am - and if you include during the tour - it lasted until 11am - but they are probably better planned now. they only had one person to talk to you.

you need to talk to the person to get your fast passes. Since I had nothing planned for that day - did not mind waiting to talk to him. others did so let them go first.

of course might be fond of it because I won the gift certificates.

Wow, you guys are all very courteous of your guide's commission. I am always surprised at the connection people have made with their guides. My guide hasn't initiated any contact with me (I don't expect her to and wouldn't necessarily want her to be calling me every other month) and has called me once, about 6 months ago. I also have not initiated any calls to her, I don't know why I would. If I have a question about something, I just call member services.

Sorry to go OT.

What if you're "just looking", do you have to listen to a hard sell job just to get some fastpasses?!?

We would really like to go and see BLT on our upcoming trip but have never even met our guide or heard from him other than his name on mailings.

How could we request to go to tour?

Anybody know what day of the week they usually do it? I would like to go, but 9am is our peak park time, and it would take more than a fast pass to make up for that. If I could anticipate the day in my park planning, it would help. Thanks!

Can anyone go to this? If so how do you get signed up/invited? We're interested in buying DVC and are renting points for our Nov/Dec trip to try things out. We have a day scheduled for us to check out the resorts and Christmas decorations so I could easily add this to our schedule that day. I have spoken to a guide but we decided we needed to wait a few months before we jumped in (and wanted to see the resorts in person to decide on our home). Would I ask her or ask at the front desk when we check in at AKV?

Thanks!

Kira

You can talk to the DVC guide in the resort you are staying, or any of the DVC kiosks. I think they have them every day. Ours was at 1PM when we were down for spring break, but others have reported that they were there in the morning, so that may change depending on the day of the week.

not a hard sell - promise.

well everyone in our party got their early because the guy given them out was leaving.

so don't know.

think ours was Wed - but think got told they were doing in Mon, Wed & fri - now not sure about this but think that is what the lady at AKV told me about it.

but only for 3 months.

it is ONLY for current members and their guests.

would go to AKV to sign up - had no problems there - she just asked to see my DVC membership card.

Can anyone else speak to when this is being offered - I wanted to do this on a saturday since our flight gets into orlando in the morning and figured our room wouldn't be ready yet (and I can't get a hold of my DVC agent to get more info)

thanks again for the help!

Try and call ahead for this if you know you want to go. We knew about it but only asked on the morning of the day we wanted to go (the event was a t 1 p.m.), and we were told that the event was full. We never got advance info in the room or from our guide - I had read about it on these boards.
We went to see the models, but did not get to see the lounge or get any freebies. On the other hand, we did not have to speak with anyone about buying, either.
