I don't need heels. I'm short but my family has bad knees/ankles I'm trying to avoid. It seems like I can only find heels or orthotic looking shoes....Any suggestions?

My DD, a major shoe-aholic, swears by DSW. I hate to go in there with her because it always costs me $$$, lol. She has some cute flats she got there before the fall semester started...she needed comfortable shoes for walking around campus that didn't look "old-ladyish".

Flat shoes are very bad for your ankles. I have tarsal tunnel from years of wearing flat shoes. My foot doctor suggested I stay in tennis shoes and they recommended the Avia brand. I would have really bad heel pain even though it was my ankles causing the problems. Avia shoes have really corrected the problem for me!

when i worked in retail i loved clarks, some areosole styles, dr.scholls(they make flats now!), and sofft shoes. sofft are great for when you do choose to wear heels, i used to get them at marshalls/tj maxx for about $40 each (they retail for around $120 each).

I second Kohls! Most of my flats are from there. Check the junior's section, too, because a lot of times they have cute ones there (like on a rack, not out on the shelves with the boxes) that don't look like junior's shoes.

By flats I just meant 'not heels,' not necessarily that they could have no support. I cannot wear tennis shoes to work.

I will check at Kohls (I did look there but not in the jr's section and different stores around here can have very different items.)

Any suggestions on where to look for Clarks? I don't care for the look of Tom's (no offense.)

I will also check these options and dsw. I have never heard of sofft.

I second the Sofft brand. I also buy them at Marshalls or TJ Maxx - they usually have a good selection of flats as well. I have to wear dressy shoes to work and prefer flats or very low heels.

You can find ballet flats at a lot of stores now. I have a couple of pairs from The Gap that I like. I have even worn them around Disney World without any problems.

I do not wear flat "professional shoes". I wear flat casual shoes, mainly thong type shoes and tennis shoes. My favorite all time everyday shoes are Oka B shoes (I only use the thong type). I have worn these the past two times to Disney.

I can't do heels. I am in a suit 5 days a week. I'm on a plane 4 of those days. My favorite low/no heels that don't scream "cheap department store flats" are Trotters and Easy Spirit. Well made, stable heels, 1 /4 inch or under. And feminine. They cost between $50 and $100 but you can use codes to buy them online and they far outlast the flimsy shoes you buy at Kohl's and the like.

I say easy spirit. You need something that will give you good support. A lot of flats are just as good as walking on cardboard. I had a pair of easy spirit strappy wedge heels with a cork sole that I actually wore for two days in the parks a few years back. They were so much more comfy that the tennis shoes I had been wearing! :confused3 I wish I still had those shoes now! Anyway, you dont have to rule out all heels, just make sure whatever shoes you get are going to support your feet, ankles and knees!

I wear Dansko shoes to work as do a lot of my coworkers. I have some clogs and sandals.

I wear pants to work and can't stand heels. I keep Sketchers in business. I wear the Maryjane styles. They are cute and almost as comfortable as sneakers. I love to shop at Shoebuy.com. I put in my size, and other descriptive filters and shop away. Free shipping and if they don't fit; free shipping back. Love it! Also, shop through Sunshine Rewards (or your favorite rewards site) and get cash back.
