Jillian - hope you're feeling better! As for TV, Ally watched quite a bit when she was younger - all Disney channel or PBS, but now it's gotten out of control. We disconnected the TV upstairs saying it was the biggest mistake we made, putting it up there for her. She has to earn that priviledge again.

Laura - I'm thinking the island's name is "I'm gonna beat your *** until you start listening!" :rotfl2: It's driving Jeff and I insane! The mouth, the eye rolls, the arguing. She is suddenly smarter than we are! AARRGGHH!

As for movies in Minnesota, yah, surely, you betcha. Dontcha know. Oofta. :rotfl2: I loved "Fargo" for that very reason!

I'm feeling really queasy today - may take the afternoon off and rest. Don't feel bad, just not good, kwim?

Cammie- I loved the wedding pics on FB and WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE ARE GETTING SNOW????? I dont get to watch anything except Toy Story and Cars..

That brings me to my next question. How much TV a day did you let your munchkin watch? It's so cold here and he is sick so he has been laying on the couch and watching TV, but I feel like my brain is rotting away his must be too right?

Thanks Jillian! Felt weird posting them but there were two girls from high school in my wedding party and some other high school friends were dying to see pix of them.

And - yes, more snow. I'm like you though; never watch the news anymore. The only time it's on is for about a half hour at 5:30am before Lauren gets up; that's where I hear these things.:)

Both Amanda and Lauren spent alot of time in front of the TV during the winter months whent they were younger; became BIG fans of Arthur, the Big Comfy Couch and Out of the Box!(awww- memories!) Anyway, I like to think the girls grew up just fine; I wouldn't make myself so crazy about it. The battle I have now is the number of electronic devices Lauren is using at the same time! She's IMing on the computer and texting on her cell; or playing Nintendo and texting. I've told her numerous times - one thing at a time! Just makes me crazy!!!!

And Laura and Kara - just you wait; it doesn't get any easier as the girls get older!:scared:

Before Nicolas was born, I bought all the books. I thought that the best thing was to not do TV. Then ... well, I got real. I needed to do stuff, and right or wrong, TV became my friend.

I am super monitoring on what they watch. Playhouse Disney, PBS, Sprout - very mild and mostly educationally themed kids shows- but the sad fact is that Nicolas crawls in bed with me at 6:30am to watch "Big Boy Shows" until his sister gets up - and the tv pretty much continues to be on until bedtime. I've been working on turning it off some, but they seem so roudy when it is off, I generally cave.

Cammie - glad to hear that yours turned out okay - I think they sound like great - well adjusted kids. How much did they watch before school started. (PS - please say all day so I'm not worried I've warped my kids for life).

The rain didn't feeze here, but sounds like KY is in for a nasty time. We are suppose to get snow tomorrow. We'll see what they adjust it to - but we aren't suppose to be above freezing tomorrow - so we will see. I'm sure schools will be closed with just the threat.

Thanks Girls I feel much better. The only show Luca watches I dont love is SpongeBob, but he really watches Playhouse Disney and then Toy Story one and 2. He is very smart, but just doesn't love to color or do art projects yet so I am very limited on the things there are to do. We do try to take him somewhere once a week to "PLAY" such as chuck e cheese or the playroom at the mall. I think maybe next week will be the childrens museum in Boston :confused3 I can't wait for Summer

Just a quick fly by for now but our TV is always on! I feel bad about it but I love TV.... always have. Of course BK (Before kids) I said I would have strict guidelines about that and food...what a joke!

Another reason why we all get along so well!:happytv: :thumbsup2

I try with food but sometimes it is impossible and if he asks for something to eat I make it or give it to him.

The poor thing has a BAD diaper rash he has never had one before and I have tried balmex type products and they burn him from the zinc and I have tried vaseline and now I have him dry and in cotton underwear I am not sure what to do any suggestions?

I let my poor Elizabeth go around naked to get rid of hers. It was awful! We had to see a dermatoligist!

my girls would get them so bad it would like open wounds. Turns out it was a yeaest infection. A little lotramin at. Did wonders. Yes thevathletes foot stuff. It worked great.

Thanks girls I had some nystatin around so the Pedi nurse said to use that I am going to make an appt tomorrow because now he has a runny nose. I am not sure if the ear infection didn't go away or what??? Maybe a little flu who knows.

You girls sound just like me. Funny how we have all these plans about how we think things will be, and then what really happens is totally different!
These babies watch way more TV than their daddy did, but I admit, it is my friends sometimes!

I'm watching the Bachelor on TIVO now. Didn't watch last night.

Hey girls, I talked to Pam tonight! She said she misses us, but just can't keep up! She said to say hi and She'll see us on FB!

Cammie, I was thinking today about how close your trip is! I'm so jealous! Jim said something about our trip last night, and I just got the butterflies thinking it will be here before we know it, especially as busy as I am!

Hi Kara, Debbie, Jillian, Renee, Sewer, Tessa, Erin, everyone else!:grouphug:

Yeah, I was gonna limit TV, no sugar, yada yada yada. Now she eats crap, watches crap, and will probably be pole dancing by the time she's 16! :rotfl2:

Jillian - I didn't like spongebob either, but I don't think it's bad, just empty. Nothing real educational there. Better than ABC Family that runs stuff in the afternoon about pregnant teens, etc! I just overheard the TV one day and that is what was on!!! WTH? I had to ban that channel. Now Ally knows ONLY Disney or Nick. It's so sad what is on these days. We were watching something the other day (CSI I think) and decided that it would have been a rated "R" movie when we were growing up, now it's on at 9pm on network TV. :sad2:

I got half of my drapes done and hung last night. I had to do a little trickery because I mismeasured (of course!) and had to piece a bit together. Looks good though so I'm very happy! I got about half of the second one done, just need to hem and attach to existing drapes, then hang. May try to finish up today - then I need to make tiebacks and I will be 100% done in the family room!

Once we're done there, we are going to paint and lay hardwoods in my office. Any ideas on fun office colors or themes? We have tons of golf knicknacks, and also a lot of beachy crap. I want the real dark hardwood in here, and we have white trim and white french doors in here. The rest of the downstairs is beige, deep red, and apple green, so I want to blend it in a bit. First I thought red, but I don't know what to do with it. Then I thought maybe just a sand color and go with the beachy crap. I'm torn.....

Good morning everybody! The girls are home today with a snow day. The lovely white stuff is falling fast and furious right now. Even better - it's supposed to change over to rain this afternoon! UGH!

Hiya all,

Cammie- last time I remember a snow day home from school over here was in 1972!!!!!! I was eight! I remember wishing and wishing for more - but no luck!

As for the TV debate - we are wondering whether to ditch our Sky (satellite tv service) - the kids have become addicted to Spongebob - as you say OK but empty - and EVEN worse - - - Drake and Josh and iCarly!!!!! what cr*p (not a word i often use but my it does describe them well!!!) So they are banned in our house for now. My youngest has a bit of a crush on Drake and has accused me tearfully of being mean and that she will just die if she never ever sees it (him) again - SHE IS 6!! So it is definitely staying banned for now.

Total screen time is getting silly in our house though - Nintendo DS and Wii, computer and TV - even stuff like tamagotchi and pixel chicks are being used all the time it seems. So we now have a rule - you read for half an hour or practice piano, or do homework, or just play together for a while to earn an hours screen time. This weeks piano lesson went SOOOOOO well!! they had practised SOOO much:goodvibes

Anyhow, got to feed the masses...

Tessa

Tessa, I agree about Drake and Josh and iCarly. Also Zoe 101 I don't like either. I will only let her watch those shows in the family room so I can turn it off if I feel the subject matter is too old for her.

I remember my first "crush" was on Speed Racer, yes the cartoon! I wanted to be Trixie his girlfrined! :rotfl2:

I agree :goodvibes Now, though.. it is funny to think about all the things I wasn't going to do/let my kids do1 :rotfl2:

I HAVE LOTS Of experience here. If the zinc is burning (MIA IS ACTUALLY ALLERGIC TO ZINC CREAMS) I use Aquafor baby or vasaline too. I actually had Aquafor compounded with Coal Tar when she was little to stop the itching. Then my SIL snuck me some Aloevista from the hospital. That stuff works well too - but no better/worse than the aquafor. Chlorine free diapers helped (Seventh Generation) and Mia can do Huggies but not Pampers. :confused3 The rash - if it is yeast- will have irregular boards and look bright red - like a hand slapped rash and Mia's peeled. :sad1: Lotramin twice a day is what they told me. Soak in the bathtub with Baking Soda will help too. Avoid wipes if you can. Just try to put water in a cup and pour it or use a spray bottle and gently pat with a soft cloth or viva paper towels work well. Can you tell I've had to deal with this a lot? :lmao:

my girls would get them so bad it would like open wounds. Turns out it was a yeaest infection. A little lotramin at. Did wonders. Yes thevathletes foot stuff. It worked great.
::yes::

Okay - so laugh - but they called schools pretty much in all Mid TN last night. Snow came today. Barely dusted the roofs. :confused3 BUT I understand why they did it. Back in 02 we had a big snowfall of 4 inches. Our city doesn't have the equipment so 45 minute rides turned into 8 hours - cars were stranded - and so were our Schoolbuses :scared: so the parents really let them have it and I think they just over react now.

I'm typing up my deduction lists to turn in to our tax preparer this weekend. I did the estimator online, and we are going to do well. Wiped out half our debt already. :cheer2: Now to just work on the other half.

Okay - off to get some lunch. Hope everyone has a very safe day. I worry about our nothern girls! :flower3:

Well, I ripped down the lop sided ones the lady who owned the house before us had. I'm kinda enjoying just the blinds for now. I guess it is a statement at this point. :)

As for your house. I don't know the size of the room, but red would make it smaller. My dining room is Sienna, but it honestly looks more red - but not bright apple. The space is big, so it handles it well, but I bet the room would look bigger another color maybe. What about going with the "beachy crap" :lmao: and doing the walls a sand color. There are so many ways you could accent that - red, brown, blue, green ~ so you could change it up a bit.

Since it is YOUR office and you are there all day - I say try to make it something you enjoy. Something to brighten your mood - you know? Imagine how you would feel with your walls the color (wasn't it downstairs that Jeff picked out the yuck color?) you didn't like. I say don't limit yourself to tons of golf stuff/beach stuff. You could do it the way you want to get to at some point and shop yardsales/thrift to get pieces "vintage" that tie into you exact idea.

I bet I'm of no help! :)

That is a great idea about earning time.

I'm fed up with my kids trying to run over me. I need to get something in place. Today I'm toying with a chore chart idea... earning TV or Wii time maybe,

Another idea is the punishment  side of things - doing 4 cards, and once those 4 cards are pulled, you get nothing the rest of the day. :snooty:

I don't know, but I've go to get these kids in check. It is really nuts the way they thing they can tell me "HEY, stop that". :sad2:

And for my latest need for group support.... :grouphug:
My four year old is constantly sticking his hands in his pants. :crazy2: I keep telling him to stop and he is aware because I walk into the room, and boom they are out in a jumpy fashion. HE IS FOUR! Right now it is just a grabbing issue - but I don't need to see this! :scared: Suggestions on how to handle it?

Anyone else's kids ever watch Noggin? I have Nicolas watching Little Bill now while I"m working on our deductions. They always have good life lessons... today it is about finding a dollar and looking for it's rightful owner. :goodvibes It's Bill Cosby's show - which was always one of my favs growing up.
