That's why I love this thread and I love this group...people can come and go as they please but It's nice to know it's always here with a listening ear!!!

Probably can't be much help on the DIL/inlaw thing since I am sure I annoy my DHs side as you probably are figuring from all my discussions regarding the holidays. Who knows...maybe not but I do know that the mothers of son's feel and probably do get slighted. I think it depends on how close the DD is to her mother. I am probably a little sensitive with this subect since you guys know by now how goofy I can be. I still live with my Mom! The thing is I feel like we are more like friends but still have a mother /daughter relationship. She does NOT baby me in fact sometimes I feel she can be too hard on me. I could go on but I'll spare you all.....
Oh!!! Two more things!
One, I am going to see Barry Manilow tonight and two we saw Radio Disney today at our mall and tried to win Hannah Montana tickets.

Fun day!

Tammie - Good for you - sticking up for yourself with the dog issue!

Now, am I understanding correctly: your DS and his family are now staying with his in-laws instead of you?(I get confused keeping track of the MILs, DILs, and SILs!) That stinks! I always felt that mothers of sons get the short end of the stick when their boys grow up and get families on their own. I see it happen in my family with my two brothers. They don't ever speak up to their wives and therefore don't make half the time to see our family. When I was married, I thought I was pretty considerate about it - I tried to give equal time to both sides. I hope I'm that understanding when my girls marry!:rotfl:

You got it - since our youngest DS and his family live with us now, the oldest DS (well, his wife) don't want to stay with us when they come to town. They are staying with DHs parents. (so not even her family) We saw them last night - I could tell he felt bad. You set an example for your girls, like my mom did for me - they'll get it.

I just love coming to this site each and every day to see that there is a world out there that I actually fit into.

My mother in law always says that the mom of the boy always gets the short end of the stick... except with my hubby... we always make sure she gets equal time with him and her grandsons... (doesn't give a rats heinie about me:rotfl: ) However I do see it with her other boys!

Thanks for understanding. It is great that you make sure your DH gets time with his mom. I have never been demanding or "hovering" - so I have made it easy for them to decide to go elsewhere - but it still hurts.

Tammie - I hope you are feeling better. The women do seem to get their way most of the time. If your son and DIL can't handle things and need to be babied then it is better for you at least not to have to take care of them. I do feel for you though.

Thanks

I don't remember what I last told everyone about my mom so I'll start from after she had her biopsy. The lung collapsed and they didn't get a good biopsy. They were pretty sure it was cancer so they did surgery on Dec. 26. They removed the lower part of her lung because it was cancer. Everything went well and she is home now. They said her 5 year survival rate looked good. I hope they are right. I just want to thank you all again for your support and prayers.:grouphug:

I'm sorry your mom has cancer. I'm glad the surgery went okay and that you have more time with her. I will be praying for you.

I did read between the lines, but I still love you! :lovestruc I think it depends on the son's family, too! I mean part of my DHs family is really hard for me to deal with, too. Lindsay says we are the best parents anyone could ask for and doesn't understand how my DIL could be so unappreciative. I think that DIL2 - Dana - just needs to be the center of attention, and she has to share that when she's here. We are scrapbooking today - we'll see how that goes! How was Barry?

Thanks for listening, everyone! :grouphug:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Here's a good one - DS Ryan and his little family came by to say good-bye today - about a half hour after they left, DS Mark noticed they had forgotten their "other" little ankle biter dog! Dana felt so bad when I called - she hadn't noticed! So, the last laugh is on me - I am stuck with a little stinky, old dog with "potty problems" until Friday when I go over the mountain to their house!:rotfl2:

Tammie -
:rotfl2:that is soooo funny - mmmmm do you reckon they really "forgot"??

Hope you are all well - we had 3 inches of snow on the hills around us (around a mile away) on Sat so went and made snowmen + threw snowballs at each other, then went home and the snow was gone by next day, no slush or anything - how PERFECT is that for snow!!

Sorry about your mum (Keahi? I'm hopeless matching names to disnames!!), but at least it sounds she has got over the worst of it...

I am in the pre holiday lull - I want to be there, but it's too far away to spend tooooooo long dreaming.... We showed the kids our video of the last trip- pre children - my GOODNESS I looked young and thin - 10 years ago!!!

I am now on a diet - and subscribed to the Loosing weight for the mouse thread too.... to try and keep myself on track.

Cheers,
Tessa

I was thinking the SAME thing!:lmao:

Anyway, we're in the middle of ANOTHER Nor'easter this morning. We're supposed to get around 10inches. Both girls have snow days today so they're still tucked away in their warm beds! I, of course, couldn't get back to sleep - once I'm up, I'm up!

Tessa - what a wonderful way to have a "snow storm"! You can enjoy the beauty of it while it's falling; and then, poof ... it can be gone! Isn't it unusual for you guys to get snow? Hope you enjoyed while it lasted.

Hi Everyone,
I'm glad you finally got some snow Tessa...hope it was fun!
We are just freezing right now. No snow yet. Cammie, stay safe! I am going to try and get some work done today (all week actually). I HAVE to. It's my New Year's resolution (AGAIN!)!
Tammie:rotfl2: That's funny!
BTW I used the under eye cream and like it but when it came time to try the whole package of goodies my skin broke out really bad (before I even used any). See that's my problem..I don't wash my face aside from when I shower or to take make-up off. My skin gets too dry otherwise and if I moisturize my skin, it breaks out like I am a teenager! For some reason these past few weeks I broke out terribley(I am guessing hormones and no sunshine/tan)! I am on my oral medicine and my cleansing pads from the dermotologist and it is just now clearing up! So....I might just get the eye cream only from you (I don't break out there). Also do you have a cover up with acne medicine it by any chance? PM me!

Cammie - Thanks about my mom. Do you have someone to shovel your snow for you? I hope so. That is a lot of snow.

Tessa - Glad you got some snow. DD & I had our fun day in the snow this year so if it doesn't snow again I will be okay. She doesn't want to go out if it is under 32 degrees and neither do I so I am lucky there.
The worst is over w/my mom. The surgery supposedly removed all of the cancer. Nothing was in the lymph nodes. I do know that there is a 40% chance that it could come back but hopefully, if she stays off the cigarettes, it won't come back.

DH quit smoking Saturday. Anybody out there quit smoking for good? I don't know at all what he is going through so I am not much of a help to him.

Tammie - Too funny! And yet not.:headache:

Debbie - I have been breaking out like crazy and I am trying Proactiv. So far it seems to be working slightly.

Hey everyone. Things have been so crazy here I haven't been able to get online.

Cammie- I do hope you have someone to help you with all of the snow it was very heavy. My Brother comes over and we pay him 20 dollars to help out.

Debbie -I used proactiv and it worked for a while if you use it twice a day and then nothing.I finally went to the derm. because while pregnant I got an insulin rash only on my face. It caused acne my entire face was covered. I had to take an oral med and a topical med.

I am sorry to hear about your mom. I am glad to hear the surgury went well .

Hiya - one of my past vices (before husband) was smoking, so I can tell you he will seem like he is "pre menstrual" after one week for about 3 weeks ... patience and understanding will be needed!!!

I used Nicorette replacement chewing gum after 2 false starts - but don't know if I'd totally recommend it - I became addicted to that instead, then weaned off to normal chewing gum, which has done my dental health no end of good, so I guess it was all right in the end....

I do not know how my then fiancé dealt with my moods at the time - but he was lovely - and then he married me, so I guess it wasn't too bad. Haven't had a cigarette in over 10 years now, and never ever will again.

Just need to get my weight sorted now, you'd have thought that with that amount of willpower I could do anything, but doesn't seem to work like that...:confused3

Good luck..
Tessa

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!!!! I hope that you all are doing great!

I have been so overwhelmed lately! I spent almost a couple of weeks at my mom's w/the girls visiting w/my grandma over the holidays and I got behind on dis and our thread. I was so behind after the holidays that I never thought that I would catch up! I miss you all terribly, and I just need to get over it and hop on and just say hi and get back into it. It's silly, but I think that I need to read every missed post and comment to everyone on what's going on in their lives and tell them everything about what's been going on in mine! The longer I am away, the harder it is to come back. I just need to stop that. It will be one of my many things I hope to be better at for the new year.

I have to go home today to meet the heater guy. Our heater is going on, but not staying on. I think it just started last night. We are getting a really cold spell (not as cold as some of you guys!!) tomorrow night, so I need to get it fixed before then! It's always something! We just had our hot water heater replaced last week because ours was old and started leaking in the garage. No damage, luckily! DH took that one, so I am taking this one today!

My mom is going in for a biopsy on Monday. We had thought that she did not have cancer, but they only ruled it out by 85% they say. She will be in the hospital 4-5 days, then home for several weeks. I hate that she has to go thru this - they have to open her rib cage and she will be very sore. I hope that it is not cancer. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I have so much to say! See!!! The longer I wait, the harder it is, then I don't communicate at all! It's a horrible trait.

I have some reading (and sorry!! writing) to do!

:grouphug:
Did I say that I missed you all???!!!
Pam2

Pam - Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a nice holiday and got to spend some time with your mom. Will definitely keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry your family has to go through this.

Don't worry about not being able to catch up. You know this group well enough - just jump right in! You haven't missed anything too earth-shattering. For me, this is what I've been dealing with:

My winter wonderland:

I have to admit, it does look pretty. And, no worries here, ladies. I've discovered I have a snow shoveler right under my nose! My 11 yr.old and her friend did a wonderful job shovelling the wheelchair ramp (all I really care about anyway). And they did it in half the time it would have taken me!:rotfl: Best $10 I ever spent!;)

I don't remember what I last told everyone about my mom so I'll start from after she had her biopsy. The lung collapsed and they didn't get a good biopsy. HI all!!! Looks like I have missed alot here.

Lisa...I am glad to hear that your mom's 5 yr survival rate looks good. That's positive news and something to look forward too. Having a positive attitude really, really helps. I hope she is feeling well. Hugs. Prayers to your family.

Pam2..sorry to hear about your mom. I hope all goes well with her. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer, for some reason I was relieved to finally know what he had. It was Hodgkins Lymphoma a slow growing one. He had it for at least 7 months and was at Stage 3B I believe. He had a tumor in his armpit and one near his spleen. But in my gut I just knew that he'd be fine..don't know why and I kept a positive attitude through the chemo. That's weird for me since I am such a worrier. And he was cancer free after 6 months. :cheer2: He did pass away from other things 5 years later, but I believe the positive attitude really kept him feeling better. Hang in there..not knowing is the worst part. Hugs and Prayers to you and your fa mily as well.

Camster...I'll take your snow!!! It looks soo pretty. We have got ZERO snow this year. Sometimes we get a big Nor'easter and it'll dump a lot or we'll get 6 inches here and 4 inches there, but this year we've only got a dusting. I think Florida has seen more action than we have! Beautiful picture.

Debbie.....Sent you an email. Hope all is well. Have you chatted with Maureen lately?

Tammie......any trips lately? I love hearing about your trips! I live through you! I would love to travel more when the girls are a little older.

Pam

Pam2 - I know how you feel. When I first came back here after so long I felt like I should read everything. I actually didn't because then I knew I would not have time to post. Glad to hear you're well. Hope all goes well w/your mom. The day of the surgery for my mom was the hardest. I freaked out when they told us that they removed some lymph nodes. I thought they did that because they saw something. It was just to stage the cancer. My mom is sore still but it is getting better. It has been a couple of weeks.

Pam - That is great that your dad got through everything and you had some more years w/him.

Cammie - Is that your neighborhood? It is beautiful. Do you have a lot of land yourself?

Jillian - I can never tell if a medication is totally working in the beginning because new acne always comes up the first two weeks. The best stuff I have had for acne was a pill, I think it was an antibiotic. Of course you can only use it for a couple of weeks though.

Thank you so much for your help. I keep thinking that if he feels this awful now he will never be able to get through this. If he is like you and the worst is the first few weeks, I think he and I will get through this. That's funny that you compared it to being pre-menstrual because that is what is like. He was very calm today but I could see him struggling at times.

Glad to help....:goodvibes

Now, I have been looking at some of the other stuff on the boards - pre trip panic is setting in - still 79 days to go..... and AAARRGHHHH - I HATE bugs - do you get many in Florida in April?? - been reading about Palmetto bugs - I wish I hadn't!!!! eeeekkkk

Hey ho, another worry to add....

Tessa
